Sweet book and very sad in parts, but I expected a bit more depth -- it was also hard to recognize the "voice" at times, as it seemed to switch between 2 narrators with no warning. Cat lovers will probably enjoy this book, but I think there are better ones out there.

I loved this final novel in the trilogy, but am so hoping that this is not truly the end as I have fallen in love with the characters and don't want to lose them -- especially Jacob.. This series just got better and better as I read it and am eagerly awaiting her new book/s. Highly recommended for YA and for anyone with a romantic streak in them.

I loved this second book in the trilogy. I was unsure where the author would go and whether I would enjoy this as much as the first one, but it blew me away. Great historical fantasy romance -- unexpected I enjoy the fact that she creates strong female characters who drive the plot forward with heroes who feel very real.. Could not put this down.

The author takes the familiar seven swans fairy tale, fleshes it out with characters that live and breathe, and then broadens and deepens the story. Historical romance readers will love this book, as will fantasy lovers. The historical backdrop of Ireland vs. England make the landscape both familiar and a new creation. Th writing is lyrical at times, and very easy to read. This book made me fall in love with the author, and have since read everything that she has published and have yet to be disappointed.

Childhood favorites -- have very fond memories of reading the first one in the first grade adn reallizing, to my joy, that there were lots more for me to read. Also remember loving the illustrations. From a different time, very innocent, sweet and fun. I am trying to find one now to read so I can compare

I enjoyed this book very much but still think her strongest series is the Dark Jewels series, which I have read too many times to count. For those who are unfamiliar with her work, it seems that the cover is meant to lure in the "romance" readers, which is fine, but it does not do justice to the depth of her work which is rich and dense. I believe Ann Bishop is unsurpassed in creating alternate realities that resound with her readers. Her characters are complex and well-rounded and evoke the reader's heart and mind. However, I do wish she would return to the Dark Jewels' realm and that whatever she wrote she would do it faster -- this is one author whose books I eagerly await...

  • A Child Called "It"

I found this book very difficult to read. From the chilling descriptions of what his mother did to him, to how everyone else in his family were accomplices, willing or not, to how he was victimized for being "different" at school (bruised, dirty, smelly and hungry enough to steal food consistently), this story was shocking and gripping at the same time. My heart went out to David, while nowhere in me could I find a scintilla of understanding or empathy for his mother or his father, who allowed the systematic abuse to continue and escalate over years. This was not slapping or hitting, but debasing, degrading behavior heaped onto a child, as well as acts so horrendous that I had not even considered them possible prior to reading this book -- forcing him to drink poison, making him eat shit out of a diaper, literally are only a few of the appalling examples. I was appalled and horrified, and ultimately touched very deeply by the horrendous plight of this child who was brave and determined enough to hold onto his sense of self throughout the ordeal. HIghly recommended but very disturbing.

I loved this -- Joss Whedon never disappoints! The graphics were beautiful and the story riveting. I am left wondering why this is a stand-alone with no more to be seen :(
