I don't care how much money you make, where you live, what you drive, whether you're gay or straight, fat or thin, tall or short, beautiful, average or ugly, rich or poor, what shade your skin is, or what faith you are. If you're my friend, you're my friend and I accept you for who you are! (If you feel the same, steal this status just like I did!) BUT PLEASE DON'T ASK TO BE MY FRIEND TO TRY AND PLUG YOUR BOOK/S!
After 4 surgeries and 5 casts I'm back on my feet and back on here too -- woohoo
I have been very out of touch for the past few months so want to apologize to those who have written to me and received no response -- I will try and do better in the future :) And lo and behold... a few days after I wrote this, I fell while walking the dog and have fractured my ankle in 2 places -- right now am lying bed with my leg elevated so not able to do much, but within a few days will have sooooo much time on my hands I should have no problem responding to all my overdue correspondence (grin)
A friend of mine on the other side of the continent sent me an invite to join, and have been hooked ever since. it is such a pleasure to browse other people's shelves and discover forgotten loves from childhood as well as new adventures -- so thanks to all of you out there. It's also a real treat to be able to peak into other people's reading lives -- I imagine who they are and what we would have in common in the real world based on book choices.
And then I look at my shelf and am absolutely amazed/appalled/aghast at the number of utterly rubbish books I have on my shelf, but there it is, unedited and true -- I confess, I am a book addict and read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I do also read a lot of good books, so try and justify this by telling myself that it is a balance :)
With regard to my ratings they are genre-specific, since one can't compare classic literature to a frothy summer read to a comic to a paranormal romance; at least I can't
FYI many of the books on my wish list are books I have seen on other people's shelves that look interesting but if I have not given them a star rating that means that I have not yet had a chance to explore what they are about, perhaps check out an excerpt at Amazon, or at least read a few reviews to see if I want to read them.
If anyone out there would like to give me some recommendations I would love it as I am always looking for something new to read. There is nothing as sad as discovering a new author, falling in love with him/her, reading all their books and then discovering there are no more. Some of my favorite authors are Anne Bishop, Margeret Drabble, Alice Hoffman, Zora Neale Hurston, Laurell K Hmilton (pre-Micah [blugh])Vikram Seth, Charlaine Harris (and so many more) so if anyone knows of simliar authors please fill me in. Thanx
BTW my avatar is Roxie, my staunch reading companion and ally in all things slothful.
