I finally started Eat, Pray, Love this week and it's so much fun to read! The "Eat" part is in Rome, Italy, and it's hilarious.

Exodus was wonderful. I used to love Leon Uris and one of my students at Hall, a boy, adored his books and read everything by him and eventually became a professional journalist himself. I don't know yet if Things Fall Apart is depressing, because I'm only halfway into it. I think it might be. It was written at the turn of the last century by a Nigerian writer about British imperialism (missionaries, etc.). Africa IS upsetting, and since you studied it a lot more than most of us, you should know.

Have you read Things Fall Apart? I'm teaching it soon and started to read, actually listen to, it on audio. I like it! British imperialism in Africa at the turn of the last century.

Shana, I am CathyF's friend. I have read Exodus, Poisonwood Bible, and Idiots Guide to Buddhism and loved all three; if you like the Idiots Guide and want to go deeper into meditation I would recommend Start Where You Are. That is also on my list.
