Reading Robin

Reading Robin

Two years ago year I attended a Christian Fiction book club and I made a committment to start reading again. I now facilitate a monthly Christian Book Club in our area. I am a stay at home mother with three children, a son 11, a son 5 and a daughter 3. I would rather read a book than watch TV. I love Shelfari because of the really nice people... more »

  • The Ancient One

    The Ancient One says

    It Couldn’t Be Done

    Edgar Guest

    Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
    But, he with a chuckle replied
    That "maybe it couldn’t," but he would be one
    Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
    So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
    On his face. If he worried he hid it.
    He started to sing as he tackled the thing
    That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

    Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you’ll never do that;
    At least no one has done it";
    But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
    And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
    With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
    Without any doubting or quiddit,
    He started to sing as he tackled the thing
    That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

    There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
    There are thousands to prophesy failure;
    There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
    The dangers that wait to assail you.
    But just buckle it in with a bit of a grin,
    Just take off your coat and go to it;
    Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
    That "couldn’t be done," and you’ll do it.

    Thanks for the promise of prayers for my work in progress. You have no idea how much that meant to me today. I truly appreciate it.

    I hope you enjoy reading OOHH. Everyone who's read both my books, like that one best.

    Hi! Happy reading. I love books by Deb Raney and Angie Hunt. (Angie was so wonderful to me while I was learning the craft of writing, I acknowledged her in SFS.) I just started reading The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner.

    I'm writing another book, tentatively called Absolution. The theme is the hardest person to learn to forgive is yourself.

    Hi Robin,
    It's hard to choose a fave KK book isn't it? Well I love them all, but love A Thousand Tomorrows the most.

    Hello Robin,
    Thanks for adding me as your friend.
    You know I would rather read than watch T.V. also. Sometimes I would rather read than be on the internet.
    What's your favorite Karen Kingsbury book?
    Blessings, Wanda

    Hi Robin, I've been out of the loop where Shelfari is concerned and just decided to get back in the groove again. Thanks for reading SFS. I hope you consider reading Out of Her Hands. My friends tell me it's even better than SFS.

    BTW, I have a special "free book" offer on my website for book clubs.

    Happy reading!!

    Hi Robin, I am just finishing the last of the Redemption Series of Karen Kingsbury. I bought my daughter the next series for Christmas and wish I could sneak a start on them, but will wait for her to enjoy them first. I just bought Dead Heat by Joel C. Rosenberg that was recommended highly for the immediate days we are living! I'll let you know. Happy Reading!

    Hey Robin, that is too cool that you use to live in Ches! My youngest daughter is the JV volleyball captain for Deep Creek H.S. we have a game tonight at Kings Fork playing Kings Fork. They changed the schedule. It's been weird! Yet you're in my neck of the woods! I graduated from Lake Howell High in Winter Park, FL. How funny is that! ;-)

    I browsed through The Shack at a local bookstore and ended up reading about four pages and the ending chapter. VOOOM! Despite some awkward sentence structure and some obvious theological loopholes the work is creatively powerful. Far from 100% percent scriptural (no book is) I believe that is why it is classified as FICTION. Is it inspiring. Yes. Is it innovative? Yes. Is it heresy? That's debateable. For an equally inspiring but scriptural read I suggest you check out 'A Step Into Deliverance" by T. Pugh. It is a riveting autobiography about one pastor's journey into the deliverance ministry. A real page-turner!

    Robin, I just saw that you read and thoroughly enjoyed as I did Room of Marvels. I was looking for this book for weeks when I read it a couple of years ago and I had thought my friend told me Room of Marbles! Funny! Glad to have found it and enjoyed it as you did. You reminded me, I may want to read it again.

    Robin, thanks for your encouragement in shelfari. I have just gotten home from Bahamas since March 28 and found my computer crashed! I will work a little harder on my shelf and appreciate your help too. Was gonna add a pic and more comments but remembered I am not to my pictures yet! Anyway, God bless,

    Hi Robin. Thanks for your review on The Shack. I have had 2 people recommend this book to me this week and I have avoided it because of the murder of the girl. I now have a friend dropping off her copy to me tomorrow because she says I must read it. Your review agrees with what friends are telling me. Thanks.
