Hi Jeanne, I hope you enjoy Kundera. I'll have to scout your shelf for some new books, looks like we have some tastes in common!

Hi Jeanne! Welcome to PBT! I noticed that you recently joined our group and, having joined only a few months ago myself, know that the many activities and posts can be overwhelming! Let me start by giving you a brief overview of what activities PBT has going on right now. Every month, a tag from the top 200 Shelfari tags is chosen, July's tag is fairy tales. After you read a book that is tagged fairy tales or even a book that you think fits the tag (we're not too picky) then post it on the thread entitled July tag: collective reads for our shelf. Feel free to look through this thread also to see what others have read, ask questions, or chime in with your thoughts. Lots of great discussion starts here.

We started a new game at the beginning of the month: Tag it to the Max. This game is a bit more detailed but the general idea is that you sign up if you are interested, the administrator of PBT assigns you a random starting tag from the top 200 Shelfari tags, and then you read one book per tag as you work your way alphabetically through the list. There are lots of little side rules, etc and you can find all of these if you search our discussion for Rules for tag it to the max. Then, if you are interested in joining, you can sign up on the thread sign up for tag it to the max.

You can also learn more about the group by searching the discussions for FAQ for new members. And the final way to learn more is to ask me! Feel free to ask if you have questions or need direction. :) I noticed lots of James Lee Burke books on your shelf...they come HIGHLY recommended to me. Is it important to read them in order? I think Neon Rain is the first and hopefully I will get to it by the end of the summer!

    See you on PBT!

    Happy reading,
    Nicole

I also enjoyed "Le Grand Meaulnes" very much.
I live in Tours, which is less than two hours' drive from the wonderfully quiet part of the Sologne which inspired Alain Fournier's book. i've done many walks in this area, and it's wonderful to think of the book as you walk.
The area has a very distinct atmosphere, which for me is distinct from that of the book because , among other things, even quiet areas of rural France have changed since the days before World War I.
    I love both atmospheres.

P-S: I've just had another look at your "Me" page:
The owner of Booktalk.org, Chris O'Connor, is also from Tampa Bay, Florida!
I'm sure the Fates meant you two to meet, at least on the web.

    Hello Jeanne-scott,

Thank you very much for your kind note and reading recommendations, i'm going to read "Parchment of leaves".
I lookep up some of the other titles you suggested at amazon.com. and I read several of your reviews there. I understand that reading and writing about books must be something very important in your life-- as it is in mine.
I wonder whether you would also enjoy discussing books. I imagine you may already belong to a discussion group, but do you know about booktalk.org? We discuss books in depth, contrary to many other clubs on the net.
At the moment we are discussing Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", and next will be "No Country for old Men" by Cormac Mc Carthy.
I wondered if you'd like to have a look.

    Regards,

    Ophelia

What I mean't to ask you is, do you know how I can add a picture to my profile. I tried to download one, but it did not work.

I enjoyed reading your review of House of Sand and Fog. I was very touched by that story and you desciribed it beautifully. I just joined Shelfari and I'm a very slow reader (only 2 books on my shelf). I haven't had time to post the rest. I have been married to my highschool sweetheart for 32 years, mother of four, and I am a grandmother of one who calls me "MIMI"

That many in common? Wow...great minds and all that. lol! I told Louise that I have mostly been busy adding my books to my shelf and have not had much time to peek at other book shelves. This is so great. What a good place to find out about books you migth want to read but never heard of. Ann

Yes, I noticed that we now have more books in common :o) That is great...we got a lot more books in common when I posted all my Janet Evanovich books ;o) I have also posted almost all my Egyptology-books, and guess what, I have those in common with....myself. LOL. Even if I check all of Shelfari I have them in common with only myself.
I still have a few more to add, but after doing that, I think that I have added practically all my English books to Shelfari.
