I promise to add more later however just got an email with a list of things to consider when dealing with life's burdens and number 3 was;

"Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it"
which seemed appropriate to share on this site.

    For 11 years, it has been my passionate work to document and archive the lives of women who perform jazz and blues music. I founded WOMEN IN JAZZ SOUTH FLORIDA, INC. to promote women who compose and perform jazz and blues, simply because these women have been marginalized in the greater circle of jazz and blues musicians. Go to our site, www.wijsf.org and become a member, today. Also, visit www.myspace.com/musicwomenlive, where you can post your own stories about being a singer, musician and composer.

    Thanks

    I saw that you read Mississippi Solo by Eddy Harris. You might also enjoy South of Haunted Dreams and his other books. I've written about them on my shelf.

    My bookclub thought it was interesting in the fact that it came across that Fredrick Douglass was committed to neither woman. He appeared to be extremely selfish, but it is that selfishness in his personal life that made him excellent for the abolishment of slavery.

    Widow Traci Evans sits in on meetings with the lovely ladies of the Invincible Sisterhood because for a little while she can feel as if she belongs. The members are all sweet older women who have lost their husbands, but not their passion for life. However, unlike the other women in the Sisterhood, Traci's husband died while cheating on her.

    Traci has no intention of letting a man make a fool of her again. Not even if he begged. Even her newfound friend and neighbor, Maureen Gilmore, can't convince her to open her heart to love again. But when Maureen's gorgeous son Ryan admits he's attracted to Traci, she might have to rethink everything she knows about love. Maureen has some soul searching to do as well. She's interested in a sexy young policeman...and then the unthinkable happens, she starts having hot flashes

    Two women - two impossible situations.

    I have been trying to read Barack's book for a minute now. My son had taken it to read as a requirement for college and then my mother was reading it. I guess I'll be able to get my book back and read his story for myself. Barack is an interesting man.

    JC,

    Your bookshelf has jogged my memory of text I've read but don't necessarily own. In the days to come I'll be adding a lot more. We're keeping the faith and the culture alive!

    Hello Lady,

    I honored to be your friend. I still have many books to enter, perhaps that we will find more books in common. Now,I am going to look and see which ones we share and perhaps we can discuss them.

    Every success,
    Alta

    Ha! the weekends are always my time to catch up on stuff around the house and try to catch up on relaxation time. This site has helped to dig out a few reads in the last year or two but most of my stuff is still boxed in the attic since the move to Schd'y four years ago.
