    A TURE FRIEND

Once there was a man. He used to supply water to the nearby village. He had two buckets and a bamboo pole, on whose two ends he would tie the two buckets and carry water for the villagers. Slowly the time passed by and one of his buckets developed a small hole in its bottom. The water from this bucket started leaking out. By the time the man would reach the village, water in the first bucket would get down to half the full level. This made the bucket very sad and one-day she asked the man to throw her away, as she’s incapable of doing her full worth. She said, the other bucket is doing her job to her maximum capacity, while she’s capable of doing half her worth only. The man listened to her very carefully and said “ok”. But he also asked her that before throwing her, he would like her to examine the route through which he brings water for the villagers. The next day when the man was bringing water the bucket saw that all through the route beautiful flowers were blooming. The scene was so pleasant, that the bucket forgot her sorrows for the moment. But as the village came nearby, the bucket saw that half of the water she was carrying has again leaked out. This made her cry and she again asked the man to throw her away. The man said that he knew this defect in her, since the beginning and that’s why he had planted seeds of some beautiful flowers in the way where he used to carry water for the villagers. And through this procedure he had been able to utilize the negative points of that bucket into some positive and useful gestures. He told her that all the water that leaked from her didn’t go waste. Each and every drop was utilized for a cause. So she needn’t worry at all.

Moral of the story:-- A true friend is one who can turn the negative points of the his/her friend into positive ones and accept them as they are

    Salaam,
I haven't married anyone yet, but I do have a large wedding booked for next month. It is a bit overwhelming to realize that my first time as a wedding celebrant will be in front of 100 people!

I live in a small town 2 hours east of Vancouver, BC.

My current recommendation would be: "Howling in Mesopotamia" I don't have the author's name at hand, but it is on my shelf. The author was a shi'a born in Iraq, but had moved to the US as a child. He got a law degree in the US, and went back to Iraq in the summer of 2003. He believed that Iraq would be rebuilt by the Americans, and that he would have many business opportunities there. His disillusionment with what happened makes an excellent read. It combines sociology with current events and an eyewitness account.
    Peace,
    Laura

I have stopped working as a librarian, and will be starting a new (non-library) job next week. But I still feel like a librarian! I'm currently reading a non-fiction book, THE OMNIVORE'S DILEMMA, by Michael Pollan. It is an expose of what has happened to food in North America. Let me know if you want me to recommend any books for you, your friends, or family. I still enjoy doing that.
    All the best,
    Laura

I have read the first 2 books in the Buru Quartet. I started Number 3, but I guess I got distracted by another book, ha ha! Not finished yet lah. I still like it, but now it is very political, and maybe it became a bit slower. I like Minke very much!
