Love history, from the old epics, translations of archives, story traditions like the chinese detective of 3000 years ago captured by van Gulik, or the japanese samurai tradition captured by Mishima, or the director Kurosawa. Enjoy the later day detective styles of Davis, Saylor, Doherty, Doody, who are set in the B.C. period but relate in...more »

yes Louis Cha is good. As for Calasso, I think his Marriage of Cadmus & Harmony is his best work. I love a good murder mystery anytime as a distraction. I just finished Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in a marathon rereading of the series. I read them as they came out of course, but I am amazed at how thoroughly Rowling had it all plotted out...lots of hints and foreshadowing throughout the series. A very nice experience to read in sequence. Will head back in to the Biography and History categories next.

Hi Tony, am currently reading 'In Patagonia' by Bruce Chatwin. Totally coincidentally right after I read Gerald Durell's 'The Whispering Land', also set there. Fascinating land. Am making travel plans to go there... someday

Hi Tony, Am so glad. Have you read 'Good Omens', jointly written by Pratchett and Neil Gaiman? Tho after attempting to read more of Gaiman, I think it is more Pratchett's book. Must read. What did you think of TP's last book 'Making Money'?

Rare to find a humble investor - most seem to have ample amounts of hubris.

I am not an investor, nor an analyst, but a humble risk manager - the guy whose job is keeps telling investors how things can go wrong. Which is where I find Hull, Graham, Fabozzi, Choudhry, Taleb, etc, most helpful.

Oh yes, Philosophy and Religion - they were my favourites till a few years ago. In fact was so fond of Bertrand Russell back in college, that my roomies called me "Russell's Viper".

Hi thanks for droping the note.

Yes, I haver spotted Buffetology at bookshops and have been tempted to pick it on several occasions. Somehow I tend to be wary of 'investing self-help' books. Have you reviewed the book on here?

    Tony,
    Here is my review....:)
Peter the ‘ghost’ his wife Bridget and his mistress Frances all find happiness of a sort after a story told with a sense of calm compassion. Our memories of the past or the dead affect our present lives and 'Instances of the Number 3' explores this idea and the liberating possibilities of forgiveness.

Salley Vickers’s style of writing is unique with humour, compassion, love and laughter. Instances of the number 3 is a book written about the complexities of the human relationships with elegance and deceptive simplicity.. truly enlightening!!
    Take care!

    PS- Ali is a pain....:)
you know what I mean!!....I am sure he won't....lol

The Cathars by Sean Martin is quite ok. It is a bit slow but it is more historic than anything. I am sending some books for you all through Chicky. She lands on the 18th I think. I have just started reading Cosmos & Psyche - see it on my shelf. Very heavy but also very interesting. You must read "Mohammed-...." by Karen Armstrong.

The upanishads are not a simple read as you well know. But what I have put on my shelf are the books I have read over nearly 10 years that I found interesting. So I did not read them all in one day!!

The one on Vedic maths is an excellent read, even if you ignore the mathematical stuff as it shows that very little has changed about math concepts since Vedic commentaries on the subject. The knowledge of "shunya" the pythagorian concept as well as most of trignometric concepts existed well before the modern times.

The cathars have always interested me as the true inquisition was against the gnostics and the cathars. The cathars being peaceful and buddhist like was the one sect of Christianity that was admirable. Maths? I have always loved math. Love to read stuff on it... will send you some reviews. I didn't think you would like any of mine. Which ones do you want a review on?

Hi! Thanks for your comments. I hope to review more if not all the books on my shelves as and when I can squeeze out some time. About Campbell and Lannoy, I'm afraid I'm not quite sure what you mean... And I wish I was 20...once again...!
