I am a reader - and a writer too.
for the past six years, I have been reading fiction steadily, switching off between Genre (Gothic, Horror, Ghost Stories, and Thrillers)
and the best prose stylists I can find (moderns like Bellow, Capote, DeLillo, MacEwen, Proulx, Cormac McCarthy, Stegner - plus some classics).

Though generally I am not into mystery/thrillers, yes I really did like Mistress of the Art of the death, though it was way too gruesome for me at points in the chalk caves, not the post-mortems which were interesting. Part of my fascination there is my love of medieval times - Pillars of the Earth, Anya Seton's Katherine, etc. I just read Umberto Eco's Name of the Rose in Nov. while I was in Melk and traveling through Bavaria. Again Middle Ages - but not so much dealing with the gory as with the unwinding of the mystery. I do NOT like Stephen King style gory, or sick. Liked DaVinci Code and Lost Symbols, but not Angels and Demons - way too vivid for me. Preferred Rose Labyrinth. If yours isn't gruesome, I'll give it a try if I can get it at my libraries - so far no luck in three closest towns. Will have to try for an interlibrary loan.

I don't read many mysteries or thrillers - I get nightmares when I read scary stuff, I am the one being chased... Not much fun. The cover itself gives me chills. I like the idea of 6 narrators and their different perspectives. Denmark is a beautiful country. I have friends there and would like to read a book set there, but I am not sure this is the one. Sorry.

No, I haven't read either one. In recent years, I have tended to read very little fiction, apart from older "classics" and some international literature.

Have you seen Barbara Kingsolver's new book? The special ed teacher I work with agrees that the Bean Tree might be a good book for the students.
Also, I am looking into Finn, as in Huckleberry.

I agree with you, the topic of Black Dogs is very intriguing but the book was a bit of a let down. McEwan has done better
