I'm a mother of 3 so I don't have nearly as much time to read as I'd like. Someday....

Rating the books is proving to be difficult for me. It is so hard to compare apples w/ oranges. So, I will just rate the ones that made the biggest impressions on me. I might give something five stars even if maybe the writing wasn't superb but bc...more »

This is a children's novel and I really only read it bc my daughter had checked it out at the library and I was without a book to read. How lucky for me. It was a delightful read. It's a very thick book but quite a lot of it is drawings that tell the more action packed parts of the story. I LOVED that because I hate to READ chase scenes. I lose interest. But in this case, the pictures made it more exciting. I even feel like I learned a bit of history. GREAT book!

This book was as horrid as the first and I now have the urge to run around slapping it out of the hands of young girls everywhere. I mean, seriously! Do we really want girls thinking that they can't survive that first heartbreak? As awful and painful as it is... do we really want to give the message that you may as well off yourself or give up on love because you just lost your only chance at it? OH! I've always hated Romeo and Juliet!

Having said all of that.... I couldn't put it down (and I'm disgusted w/ myself bc of it) and I am impatiently waiting for my neighbor to finish the 3rd book so I can cringe all the way through it.

Fairy tales are such a load of bull and I am apparently a hopeless romantic. Crap.

I hate this book. It is what my pop would call a "la-la" book. A love story. Nothing wrong w/ that, I guess, except that it is everything I hate about love stories and gives young girls everywhere false ideals about what love is. Edward is the vampire in shining armor who must rush in to rescue the helpless Bella on every other page. Bella, at least, is portrayed as intelligent and not a brainless fluff ball but still, upon meeting Edward he becomes her entire life and nothing else matters. She would sacrifice anything and everything to be with him and blah, blah, blah. But what I hate about this book the most is that I fell for it hook, line and sinker. I anticipated every brief kiss as if I were the one risking my life to feel the vampire's cold lips. God, I'm a sap. Conditioned by too many fairy tales. The girls of my generation consider Danny and Sandy's twisted "romance" in Grease the ultimate love story. Is it no wonder we are all dissatisfied w/ our relationships?

Due to my love/hate relationship w/ this book, I'll give it 3 stars. It really is a page turner so I guess she did something right.

An entertaining read. Very good visuals throughout. The action gets going pretty quick and I'll admit to being a bit creeped out at times... I love it when that happens!

What a wonderful story! It reminded me a bit of She's Come Undone in a way but a much quicker read. ( I read it in two sittings. )Couldn't put it down. LOVED IT!

This was a sweet story. I loved the relationship between the little boy and the retired professor across the street.

  • Elvis, Jesus and Coca-Cola (Kinky Friedman Novels)
    • Rated 2 stars

Kinky Friedman was recommended to me in a "If you like Christopher Moore..." way and so I had pretty high expectations which I'm sorry to say, were not met. Although he does have an interesting way of saying things, I found that I wasn't that interested in what he had to say. The story was dull and and I just didn't really like any of the characters, unlike in a Moore book where I feel like I'd like to know these people in real life. Maybe I started w/ a bad book. Maybe it wasn't one of his best? Or maybe I have just been spoiled by the wit and charm of Christopher Moore. Any Kinky fans want to make a recommendation?

I'd have to say that this book was a bit boring but still an ok book. Being one of his earlier books, I think he hadn't quite found the wit that I've loved so much in Lamb or The Stupidest Angle.

The first half of this book was booooorrrrring. I'm not really sure why I keep picking up this guys books. I loved Wicked and I loved Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. Every other book of his has kept me just barely interested enough to keep reading even though I was beyond bored at times. Son of a Witch does get a little better towards the second half.
