Both the books you asked about are worth and the answers are late, so the response might sound uniform but there wasn't much of an option.
Water for Elephants was a very good book. I would suggest it for older readers though, but if you think you can handle it, go right ahead.
Water for Elephants is a great book and you should certainly read it. Age is not an issue especially based on the books on your shelf. Good choices!
