Badmojo

I'm a 26 year old new mommy to a beautiful baby girl! I also have 6 fur babies (2 dogs and 4 cats). I read constantly before I had my baby, and now I find it's not so easy to find the time witha 4 month old. I'm trying though. Sci-fi, paranormal romance, horror, fantasy.....you name it. Every room in my house has books.

Honestly, I couldn't get through the first couple chapters of this book. I thought it was awful. The weak female lead and the over the top male lead both had me rolling my eyes and trying to find any reason to keep reading the book. I usually force myself to finish books even if I'm dissapointed in the beginning (that hopefull "It will get better" feeling) but this one -- I just couldn't do it.

I read it in one day and I'm still a little...apathetic. Initially, I was like..wow..that was very....different. The whole time I was reading it, I kept hearing Edward Norton speaking the words to me like he narrated Fight Club.

This is the first thing I've read by Palahniuk. At times I thought it was a little...gratituitous for the sake of gratituity. I don't know if that's his thing, but it got old after awhile.

"Yes, you've shocked me with your blunt, depressing, grainy and unforgiving portrayal of sex." Moving on. Only it didn't move on. I felt like I was the dead horse being beaten with the anal beads.

However, I do like his writing style. Maybe not so much this particular story, but I do like the conversationalist, choppy, unusual way he writes.

Should I read any of his other books to get a better representation?

I really looked forward to this book. While I really enjoyed it, I had to keep looking online to make sure this was the fist book in the series or whether or not I missed a book somewhere. I felt like I was supposed to know a lot more about Anna's situation than I did. By the middle of the story, I felt more comfortable and was able to actually get into the plot. Patricia Briggs always writes awesome stories, and this one turned out to be no different. I just hope the rest of this series doesn't leave the reader feeling uneducated on the characters as much as this one did.

I try so hard to still be a die hard LKH fan. With every book, I'm hoping the grit and the action will come back with the sex. But it seems like it's only....sex. Was it just me or did the "action" not start until 3/4 of the way through? The whole story was in a hotel room for the most part. Grrr. She can do so much better than this, I just wish she would get back to the Anita Blake roots.

I just finished this book last night and it was my first foray into Meyer's writing. I was incredibly impressed. The story was captivating and imaginative and the characheters were so rich and believable. I cried for the first time in forever while reading this book. I'll certainly pick up other books by her now, but I hope she contimues with the adult novels.

This book gets a lot of mixed reviews. It's either noe dreary enough, too dreary for some, and too randome for others. I personally really loved this book. It reminded me of Vonnegut, but with a little more emotion, and longer sentences.

It made me think. It made me laugh. And I would certainly recommend it to anyone that likes distopia-esque stories.

It's a classic in my mind.

When people ask me how I got into reading fantasy, aside from the Lord of the Rings, which is kind of a given, this trilogy is what I tell them to read.

I love this series so much, and I've read it dozens of times. The characters are rich and the plot is meaningful and exciting. If I could give 10 stars I would.

I lurve all Carey's Kushiel books. I recommend them to everyone I know as I think that they're more unisex than most of the stuff I read that has any romance. The character development in this one was wonderful. The world that carey creates sucks me in every time.

Sometimes, I find myself skimming over descriptive paragraphs in books (you know, where the author goes on and on about the breeze or the wrinkles in the sheets or whatever), but with Carey's books, the landscape and descriptions make the world so lush and real. I hope she continues this amazing series. I, for one, am no where near tired of it yet.

I've always like the Merry series better....well...at least since the Anita series turned into nothing but 250 pages of sex. I'm in the middle of this one, and so far I like it much better than the previous installments. At least something is happening!
