Read the review for The Idler Book of Crap Towns: The 50 Crap Worst Places to Live in the UK
I am very impressed by your shelf. The first thing that caught my eye was that The Lives of the Monster Dogs was on it and you gave it your highest rating. Then I saw some Hubert Selby, Jr....something else I haven't seen on a lot of shelves. Once I saw Selby there I wasn't surprised to see Butkowski and Palahnuck. I know Palahnuck (am I spelling that right?) is more contemporary but he seems to fit in that hard-edged and outspoken and nasty time period in American literature. As does Harry Crews. My favorite by Selby is Last Exit to Brooklyn and by Crews is A Feast of Snakes. John Irving is also on your shelf...he is one of my favorite contemporary novelists. thank you for listening. -Julie

Howdy. If you like Harry Crews' stuff you might also like my book Pullers. Harry himself gave me a plug on the book jacket. Best to you. -- Tom Graves
