I love books. I also love cooking, hiking, running, my husband, kids, and dog. I'm not sure I could live without books.....My favorites are those modern writers. ...Hemingway, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, and those of that "Lost generation" I also love modern southern women writers and find Ellen Gilcrist, Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty, and Alice...more »

Well, who doesn't wish the best for Boris and Natasha? Yes the names get a bit confusing at times, but I didn't let that slow me down. I just kept with the story and became increasingly engaged with the characters and their lives. It is a juicy novel, though I recommend skimming the Epilogue/s (at least one of them). As I reflect on the many hours spent with Tolstoy & his characters, I can't help but feel a bit cynical about politics and "important" people, while at the same time having increased faith in my fellow man. I seem to have internalized his philosophy and I think that is what makes this a great book. A great book should make the reader look at his/her world differently. I do.

My freshman students loved it. They found the passion and violence enthralling. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach about many social issus.

Easily one of the cleverest and most insightful books I have ever read. Lewis' ability to see into the depths and darkness of the human soul is frighteningly real. His use of the epistolary syle to tell this story is genious.

I love this play because it is the "first" Shakespeare my freshmen ever read, and they love it!! It is the perfect Shakespeare for a 14-15 year old; they love the romance and the bawdy comedy. I love Mercutio's sarcasm. I enjoy teaching this play because the students always love it.

It is a powerful story, masterfully told, in a powerful voice. It draws the reader in with mystery and allows one to become lost within the consciousness of the characters. In doing so,Morrison reveals deep and profound truths about the beauty and the pain of what it means to be fully human.

My favorite Seinbeck for high school students. It is an epic soap opera with murder, sex, drugs, and all the juicy stuff a teen could want, yet it has a theme of redemption...

The best King I have ever read. He explores the "seasons" of life through his stories. "The Body" is my absolute favorite. These boys come alive and walk and talk. I taught this novela to a remedial reading class and they liked it better than the movie.

Interesting the way Faulkner plays with truth/reality....he begins with teh least reliable narrator and ends with the most reliable.
