    Hi Christina,

    I've come across a series of Spanish titles you edited where you change all "important" words adding an initial cap. The English criterion for capitalization of titles is not applied to other languages, particularly to Latin languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian...). In the case of Spanish, only the first letter of the title plus proper names or words that should always have an initial capital.

    At last! Now that the site is beginning to work again, I was able to see the missing note.

    Yes, the English title is not necessary. My wish would be to approve Koshka do vtornika (+ Cyrillic title) but I would be acting irregularly, not having been authorised to do so. That formula would allow Google search to include it in the search results, so native speakers could find the Shelfari title from outside at least, even if our search would still be unable to deal with non-Latin alphabets. But... I'm not authorised yet to do so :P

    We could leave the title simply as "Koshka do vtornika". Does not look like a problem transliteration from Russian (a transliterated -y- plus -i- would be more like a problem, with Russians discussing if it should be 'i, ii, yi, iy...).

    Sorry for that wrong advice about capitalizing prepositions. I was sticking to the written rules and didn't know there might be winds of change.

    I left undecided your edit for Cat until Tuesday. / Koshka do vtornika. requesting to change it to the original Cyrillic script. This is a very interesting issue I am following with attention. I'd really like to see developments to include non-Latin scripts in the Shelfari system. One technical problem to use Cyrillic in titles is that our search is unable to deal with them.

    Hi Christina,

    In processing your title change requests recently, I have noticed that you are capitalizing "With" and "From". After reading the notes you received from César, I understand why you have taken to making these changes. I have sent him a note in regards these rules, as they are in the process of being updated, and specifically the words "with" and "from" will be added to the exceptions list in the guidelines, as they are mostly used as prepositions. I believe he was planning to leave you another note in regards to this upcoming change, but since I keep editing/denying your requests, I wanted to go ahead and give you my explanation.

    Sooo...I kind of want to punch American Psycho in the face. I started reading it again today, and the guy rambled on about what he was wearing and the products he was using for about three pages...ahh! I am determined to finish it one of these days, though.

    Also, when I left my apartment yesterday, I heard mutterings about burritos and margaritas. I support this idea 100%!

    Hello, Christina.

    I noticed you tend to edit prepositions of four letters (with, over...) in lower case. While I feel that's absolutely correct, the rule in Shelfari is lower case for prepositions up to three letters and caps for four or over.

    Hi Christina!

    A quick question regarding the title change request for The Outdoor Girls at Wild Rose Lodge. Is "or, The Hermit of Moonlight Falls" a part of the actual subtitle or is this another title that the work was released under? If it is a re-title/re-release issue then Shelfari states: 4) If a book is published under various titles, put the "best known" in the Title line. Put the other titles as the first sentence of the description section.

    Please just let me know, as I'm unfamiliar with this book!

    Hi Christina! In regards to your title change request for Winesburg, Ohio; I rejected the edit to remove (Norton Critical Editions) based on the guidelines below. These are provided to us Librarians in our private group, though I think it is also mentioned in the public guidelines as well?

    "Yes, leave the suffixes for critical editions there. Such works should also be marked as being derived from the original work. The suffix for these well known series of derived works helps to avoid accidental confusion. We treat these well known series as exceptions to the general rule for suffixes."

    Thank you the speedy reply. I agree, according to Shelfari's guidelines, leaving the series information off the title is the standard. However, in this case, that would require a lot of clean-up, as there are so many CliffsNotes books out there that are not attached to the series yet...... I'm game if you are! lol

    With that being said, I will edit the pending request to NOT include the "CliffsNotes on".

    Thank you again for clarifying. At times it's hard as Librarians to understand the purpose/logic behind the edits, especially when we look for consistency.
