The story is heart wrenching and touching. A tale of two damaged souls whom are so blinded by their own faults and fears. Gillian (of Warwick) and Christopher (of Blackmour) get help and a little push by fate (and three witches) to finding that they are truly worthy of love, and life. The supporting characters are brilliant, and as always Lynn Kurland spins a fantastic beautiful tale. This was the first novel of hers I had read years ago. I instantly fell for the characters and wanted more. This is not a book put together to please mere masses. A stout heart and box of tissues (in this readers' case) was most necessary. The tenderness and adorable way this story was told has made me a permanent fan of Ms.Kurland. It's sappy, it's touching, and it's romantic. Everything a romance should be and more. If one does not like these within their novels then perhaps one should seek something outside of the Romance genre. *wink* "This is All I Ask" is all that and more. - Taken From My Amazon Review

I had actually been lucky enough to pick this novel up, and quite randomly, at a second hand store the first time. I had very low expectations after reading many reviews, and was most happily proved wrong! Few series novels hold my attention but Glen Cook's "The Black Company" left absolutely nothing wanting in it's delivery! With solid characters, and enough mystery magic and fun. Glen Cook weaves a world one can almost imagine being in. With good attention to detail (without drawing it out in a most boring way) and intrigue aplenty. This novel is an excellent and wonderful start to the rest of The Chronicles of The Black Company. - Taken from my Amazon Review

I have loved this novel for years. Susan Kay took a chance in expanding upon a well known figure from a classic novel and did astoundingly well! The Erik of this novel is heartbreaking, and at times terrifying. The story progresses quickly and entertains continuously along the way. We learn of Erik's beginning how he became who he is, we move into his living, and then of course the inevitable ending. I am being a bit vague but trust me, any fan of PTO or the origional Leroux is bound to enjoy this expansion on his story.
