I teach and I write.
I have a system for too many things, like that guy in My Blue Heaven; he totally makes sense to me. For instance, I refuse to favorite more than ten books. Period.
I write stories that I want to read. I love mimicing writers and doing the things in my work that I think they should have done in theirs. That...more »

No reviews from me... I tag them all so I can find titles fast when recommending books to patrons here at the library, but that plus the star ratining is probably as much as you will get from me unless I REALLY have a strong opinion about a title.

I read too much and enter information onto 3 different sites like this (its the nerdy librarian in me ... if only all my friends would use the same site) to review every title that I read. Please forgive me.

North Carolina has some great libraries. I visited a fantastic one in Charlotte a few years back.

I have now read more than one book.. luckily I found a way to export my list from another site into this one so now I have the books on here that I have read in the last year or two... still far from being everything I've read but that's too daunting of a task.

HAHAH. You are so funny. I promise I have read more than 1 book but I have them all over on another site right now. I am contemplating a shift to shelfari if I decide I like it... I am not sure yet though. I will have to play with it and then decide if I am going to reenter all of the books I have read in the last year or so or just start from what I am reading now ....

    How are you?

Okay so I *finally* finished A Storm of Swords just over a week ago & have now started on A Feast for Crows. I don't know how many more twists & turns I can take! Ack! But I'm still very glad you introduced me to the series... it's fantastic! :) How's your summer going? Personally, I'm keeping myself busy by reading lots & lots of trashy books! lol :P

Okay, Mr. Listmaker, I just finished Tess of the D'Urbervilles and saw your review and have to know, what are your other two in the top three Victorian novels to read, if Tess is indeed one of them? I can never read that novel again.

My only intelligent choice for one of American's three greatest novels would be The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. I need to read more American classics to weigh in on my other top two.

Hey Joshua, I am enjoying looking at your shelf, good job on the comments. I am just starting to read science fiction (have read many of Card's) but I am having trouble finding more. I stand in front of the bookshelves in the stores perplexed because they mix fantasy and even vampire books with science fiction. I like futuristic stories and enjoy others ideas about what the future might be like. Being a girl....I also like a little human interaction too and not just technical stuff! :-) I recently read an old science fiction book from the library and only got half way....we had already surpassed some of the technology in it! I guess that is a hazard of the genre. Any suggestions?

I am examining your not-more-than-10 favorite books. Do you mean to say that in your view Gatsby, Invisible Man, and American Pastoral are the three greatest American novels?

    Hello, Joshua,

Thanks for taking the time to post comments on so many of your books. This is what makes browsing Shelfari fun--and how I build my rather unwieldy to-read list!

Hi Joshua ! Liked the topic/discussion that you commenced.
Oh! Now I notice 'The Great Gatsby' arranged among your favorites. Couldn't I just replace it with 'Lady Chatterley's Lover'...my bad! Look, I dont hate Gatsby, but I casually read it once, without studying it and decided not to recommend the same to anyone, who's a novice where classics are concerned.

You know, I felt the same way when I read the MoA. Everything in that book just made so much sense to me. And it made far more sense than any other Arthurian legends I've come across. I remember finally feeling like, "Ohhhhh! I *get* it!" after I was done reading :) I love it when that happens.

As much as it pains me to say this (I'm seriously gritting my teeth as I type), you were... absolutely right! A Game of Thrones is freakin' crazy & amazing & unexpected & shocking & unpredictable.... and I find myself both loving and hating every minute of it .

    Thank you!!! ^_^;
