Ciao barbara, come va?

    Hello Barbara,
first of all, congratulations for the new born!! I hope you are fine and it's not too hard to adapt to the new situation.
I won't be able to participate much in the June discussion either, I'm afraid. I'm not doing to good and don't think I will be able to focus so much, although it would be nice and would be a good distraction... but it just doesn't work right now. I'm really sorry.
    Love,
    Martina

Cleaning and reading, of course! Today I cleaned my house top to bottom .....literally! I started by cleaning the eve troughs.....I have a ranch house, don't worry.......and ended by cleaning all my floors......I have hard wood throughout my house. I feel like I am ready to end another school year now that I have a clean house! I have hired a lawn service to put in a side yard for me.......it was over grown and needed work. I think that it might have been the inclement weather that we had this weekend that hampered the process. But I am also thinking that it might be because the guy that owns the lawn service is a friend of my brother's and is also single.....like myself. I am wondering if he is dragging his feet on this project so that he has to talk to me more......

Did you go early with your first baby?

First congratulations. For me anything Jimmy Carters writes or says is great. Peace not Apartied is political but a great book. I took a copy with me last February and left it with my sister Mary. Who got me hooked on reading all about Queen Victoria. A book I cam recomend and thhought it weas on my shelf is "A Brief History of the USA"by Howard Zinn. You can pick it up any time and just read any part you do not have to start at ther beginning. Like you I try and learn about the USA. When we first came my husband and I would sit at night trying to name ll the Presidents then we moved on to learning what was ther capital of each state and then testing each other by naming all the states and their capital city. We became very good at it but think we may need a refresher course. Another Great American I love to read about is Benjamin Franklin.Life for me is always learning something. I love a story that is woven around true historical fact. For sure I will be learning until the day I die.My husband well be home on Sunday I am looking forward to telling him about you and how uncanny it is that your little girl has my favorite names. You will soon have to think of another name be it b oy or girl.My three sons in this order are Richard, James and Omar. All like their names and thank us for them.We first came to this continent during the Watergate scandal and have followed polotics very closely. The next few months will be very exciting.Kiss Sofia for me will talk again tomorrow and try and think of other good reads about the USA. Take care.Sheila.

    Hola Barbara,
Thanks for your lovely note! What a surprise! your hubby is from D.R. so you are learning my mother tongue. I'm so glad that you want to read something in Spanish. Hmmm, let me see, what kind of book do you prefer? a taut thriller, a gripping drama, a chicklit?? You need maybe an easy novel no too difficult to get through. I am checking in my bookshelf what kind of book would be suitable for you. Let me know what do you like first.

    Ciao Barbara!
Mille gracie for wanting me as friend in Shelfari!
What such compelling story is your life! I have also two daughters, Susanna 24 years old who works as stewardess on planes in Spain and my lovely little Teresa, 11 years old. Teresa is a chip off the old block and she's an avid reader like me LOL.
By the way, my first love was a French boy who was my penfriend for 10 years, back in 1977 ! Unfortunately he fell in love with a French girl when I was visiting his home ... but I keep in touch with his whole family since then. My second husband Javier is Spanish from Barcelona but he has learned Italian and French in high school. I always ask him to speaking Italian in our romantic meals LOL. I love this sweet language !
I am looking forward to chatting and sharing our tastes in books!
    Big Hugs and mil besos,
    Elisabeth
PS: My little daughter Teresa was born in June, the 26th. Best wishes on this new baby!!

Dear Barbara, Again I can not think of two more beautiful names. They have always been my favorite. I have asked my sons if they have daughters to please consider these names and also my mothers which was Grace. I think fro my profile you will see how much I loved her because she was sucha good person. Also she was very smart and could do anything so we even called her amazing Grace. I lost her ten years ago and will confess my life has never been the same since she has gone. We are five in my family..very close and all feel the same about her. Of course we love our Father but she was the hub of the family and had such a happy personality.I will keep close with you. Deltasky.

Barbara yes I am from England. The name was no guess they are my favorite names for a girl. My mother always said she wished I had had a girl now I am older I wish so also. I do not think she would have gone as far away as my boys. My eldest Richard is in England and an Architect the middle boy James is a computer consultant in Australia and the yougest in Santa Rosa, ca. So all are at least 3,000 miles away. I was always very close with them and think it was just fate that took them so far away. But I did the same to my parents and I know it broke theirt hearts. I look back and really wish I had not left them. We can not turn back the clock and must live with what we have done.I promise to keep very close with you, you will be like the daughter I never had. If you have problems here is my e.mail. sdahroug@cinci.rr.com. I do not mind that all my friends on Shelfari have this as they have become like family to me. I think you may have just got your little girl to sleep and in the few minutes before supper you have e.mailed me.I will keep you close to my heart. Your Friend. Sheila.

Barbara Italy was going to be my second choice, when I saw La Scalla. Well when I met my husband he had just arrived from Egypt was studing pure.Mathematics at the University of Toronto in spite of the fact he did not pass some test for English they accepted him as pure mathematics you really do not need to speak English. We have now been married thirty four years. He has a slight accent but his English is now perfect. When I hear his friends from Egypt speak they all have such a strong accent he does not. In your case an Italian accent will only help you as men love it. I have found this out with my English accent which I still have after living here for oh 35 years.I look foward to speaking with you and the cute little girl you have. I do hope she has a name like um maybe Sophia or Isabella which is my favorite name and if I had had a daughter that would have been her name. I have three great Son's but no Grandchildren..I keep hoping. You take care. Deltasky.

Barbara I welcome you as a friend and look forward to spending many happy hours chatting about books and our lives. I admire you so much that you can speak two languages. Where were you born? and I must say your English is excellent. I can not spell and must either do spell check or have a dictionary beside me and yet I took some Eng. Lit. courses in college.I am now going to peek at your shelf but just had to say hello first. Take care Friend. Deltasky.
