I kind of liked it after having thought it over for awhile. It's frustrating because the author manipulates us to feel bad for her, despite the atrocities. Plus there's the whole undercurrent of the wealthy educated class versus the uneducated class in terms of who is guilty for having done what. Like Michael's family stood by and didn't do anything. Are they guilty for ignoring it? Whereas she was a participant, albeit an uneducated one. Is she guilty for following orders? So many ambiguities.
