I just graduated with a BFA in Painting & Drawing. I'm working as a library aide and a contractor for IBM until my artwork can start earning me a living. I mostly read Science Fiction/Speculatlive Fiction and Fantasy, though I'm trying to broaden my horizons by reading more non-fiction and Classics. I also like some horror, but I haven't read... more »

weather up until now has been great now were getting it with our winter storms i have to shovel myself out of the driveway every morning and i drive an SUV haha. what area are you from again? hows the weather there? hopefully better! yeah i was really really into theatre especially in highschool. now im more into the technical aspect of it when i have the time to get involved. yeah i own the borthers karamazov but i dont remember getting all that far into it. but i will let you know when i do! i have this nasty habit of starting books and not finishing them for months later, i get so easily distracted by all the other books out there. right now im juggling rereading the hunger games ( i never actually read mockingjay so im staring them from the beginning) interview with a vampire by ann rice, and queens and rivals which is a book about bloodymary and elizabeth I. its good, but kinda like reading a really dense long chapter in an history book (: but its interesting. so, leviathan is good? i must have picked it up and put it down fifty times last year in a book store. il will have to finally read it now! i havent heard of the Campbell one, but of course Wilkie Collins is classic, writer of mystery novels in the 1800s right? i think he was personal friends with charles dickens actually. but ive never read any of his books he wrote, i just read a book on the man himself. im not a charles dickens fan at ALL however

helloooo!! (: been awhile. so yeah.. i accepted a job in williamsburg VA so im going to be moving there the last week of february, i will be a facilities supervisor for photography for busch gardens.. pretty excited because thats what i want to do for the rest of my life is work in the photography field. and i desperatly need to get away from cleveland, i havent done anything with my life in the past two years and its gotta change. so i figure moving to a state where i dont know anybody will help me out figure some things out... spend more time writing and less time bullshitting is the plan thus far haha. as far as reading nabokov, im interested in the strange, haunting but realistic way classic russian literature has of communicating to the reader.. its very foreign, but feels familiar somehow. also, its just a classic piece of literature, which is one of my secret vices. my shelf is rather out of date......... ive been heading ( or trying to) keep my reading to more nonfiction. especially historical nonfiction.
enough about me, what is new with you? what are some good books you read in 2011?

Hope you enjoyed episode one of season 2 of Walking Dead. I thought it was just a tad slow, but it was still highly enjoyable. And the very end of it....wow. Startling to say the least!

I've been working on my never ending bachelor's. Last semester was brutal and I didn't get to do any reading nor watch any movies. Now I'm back to my reading and hopefully catch up on the movies I've missed- and there are plenty!

I totally understand about the job. But what is one gonna do? Bills have to be paid and one must eat :) Bettr than no job- right?

Seems you have your summer planned out- very nice! Shakesperean Fest? I hope you had a good time, it sounds like it would've been.

I totally understand about th site, I was away from it for a while myself. But now and then I come back to it, mainly when I'm up to reading.

Have a great summer, and I'll catch you when I catch you... LOL

    be well

Hi! Sorry it's been awhile... I've been so busy. Went back to school and kind of put a lot on my plate. Still, I did well. I haven't had time to seen any movie :( But I have some time now and that's exactly what I'm going to do- catch up on my movies and my readings. I have a number of books that I haven't read and actually some books I purchased that I'm about to add to Shelfari. I hope your new job is working out AND congrats on graduating! mm

Holy moley, The Gargoyle is really blowing my mind. The writing is just incredible. And the story sucks you right in. It is about a man who gets into a car accident and his body is covered in 3rd degree burns. It's about how he deals with it. And...it's a little bit of a love story, but that is too much of an oversimplification. It isn't sciene fiction or fantasy at all. But if you enjoy good writing, you'll love it. It's a great book. I would read another book by this author and I'm saying that only 100 pages into Gargoyle!

Summer was good. *shrug* Summers don't mean much to me anymore since I"m not a teacher. They are the same as the rest of the year because I have to work. ;) It's been really hot here which is no fun. But things are starting to cool down. I went to Mt. Rushmore this weekend, which was definitely the capper to the summer. What an incredible work of art. It takes your breath away.

Hope all is well in your world.

Working out? Good for you! Why we'll look fabulous! LOL

I haven't seen the Twilight movies. But the kids in the family have and are always watching them on DVDs and I see the silliness and get turned off. But you're right. I have to read it with an open mind. And I will. Just not yet. LOL

The Monster of Florence was the worst book I've read in the past 2 yrs. What a waste of perfectly good paper.

And it's ok for your life to get in the way of Shelfari. LOL We just touch base now and then.

You know how it is- sometimes life gets in the way of books... I hurt my back last year (Aug), and had to stop working out, which allowed for a 12 lbs gain!!! :( I'm petite 5'2 so that's a lot. Doc has given me the all clear to start working out again and I've been working out like a fiend trying to loose the weight and gain the muscle. So far so good... LOL

Your book sounds interesting. I've been meaning to read Twilight but, I get the feeling it's for "youngsters." Especially when because of the kids used in the "Twilight" movies. No plot?? What did you think??

I'm almost cringing at the thought of having to finish The Monster in Florence. LOL

By the way, I haven't found my book :(

Yes thats what everyone wants me to do. But I wont because i really am not interested in medicine. Unsensible things.. magic (specifically card), Technical theatre, such as sound or lighting tech, acting, and writing.
Now technical theatre might be a good direction to go in, but it would be alot of time money and work.. and i have to be sure of myself before i do that. but i also know that anything worthwhile i have to work really hard for. which im not afraid of. so il have to think all this nonsense through :)
Yes i think that if you love what your doing its noy really working, is it? so real artists should always be 'happy' (or at the very least satisfied), even if theyre hard up for cash all the time. at least thats how i see it, but id love to experience it too

well, then sensible thing to do would do the 'ole medical degree right? thats whats being pushed down high school graduates throats right now. The unsensible thing would be like.. acting. art. cosmetology programs. music. All of which I can do on the side, as a hobby, but would be much more satisfactory as a career, albeit risky. I guess you, as an art major, would be slightly biased in the 'unsensible' direction i guess, which isnt a bad thing. i just dont know yet.
a squatter, eh? like my older bro. hes 23 and has only just moved out of my rents house. i moved out the week i turned 18. very drifty indeed :)

Transfers: A psychological Thriller (on my shelf). A psychiatrist is treating a couple of women who seem to have problems that appear untreatable. It's about past lives/regression and how they affect the present lives of these women. If you read about it, I'm sure you'll find it a lot more intereting than my description.

I was really looking forward to reading it.

Your vampire book certainly has a new "twist" as to why a vampire...

I started to read (got to a few pages) put it down and just lost Transfers, by Erna Olinger. I've looked and haven't been able to find it. The thing is, I don't remember taking it out of the house, I'd just started readihg it. Disturbing really. Of course, once I buy it again, I'll find the darn thing :(

Tell me a little bit about your vampire book.
