ha-ha ha Fragile ego? Shall I start calling you egg head? Be careful sitting on that wall. LOL
LOL If you read "The Gnostic Gospels," let me know what you think of it. I may read it.I totally agree with you, what a load of bologna with the "fake God." Not to mention all these other Gods and all these heavens. Whoever thought of these ideas, had to been stoned out of their minds. I guess scifi isn't new after all.As far as a female God, that's a whole different story. I mean, who knows if God is male or female. Maybe both. We're supposed to be in his/her likeness. I don't understand, why it has to be a he in the bible. No one has ever seen him/her.As far as things being pre-ordained. I don't believe it for a new york second. If this was the case, everything wrong that's happened or is going to happen has been decided. In which case, where's the sin, evil, etc, etc?? As the kids say- whatever!
I'm going to have to add the Poisonwood Bible to my list. Yes Judas was supposedly very enlarged filled with worms, pus and apparently very stenchy. But we know that every apostle or writer has their view of how things happened.I've actually never read other Gnostic books. I have to tell you though, it's very bizarre. I mean, how the Gnostics stories of how the world came to be and their stories, they differ so drastically from what we've read in the Bible. All these Gods, heavens and "The fake God." It reads like a psyfi movie. What's your take on this?Although I always though; how is it that Judas is portrayed a traitor and villain when he was supposed to do exactly what he did? Jesus (knew) that he would come here and be (betrayed) by Judas in this way in order that the prophesy be fulfilled. "The dying on the cross and so forth. Talk about confusing*
It appears that the stories about Judas and his demise differ in some of the stories told. In one of the stories, he becomes "enlarged" and becomes deathly ill. He dies a slow and painful death. But, I'm just getting into the reading of the manuscript itself. And indeed all this came about with National Geographic. So you probably have already read the Gospel of Judas minus the other writings on Judas. These other writings apparently are taken from other manuscripts written by others and included in the book. There's also a lot of Gnostic references which is very complicated (to me). I'll let you know what I think when I'm done. I'm reading it very slow in order to understand it. Butso far, it is very very interesting.ciao
Weird. I sent you a message, but it didn't post (?)Re the Judas Gospel. I'm enjoying it thus far. I've read how the apostles differ in their stories of Judas, how things happened and how he died. Also, how Judas is portrayed as a traitor, when supposedly he was preordained to fulfill the prophecy in handing Jesus over. Yet Peter (and others) also betrayed Jesus, not only by denying him 3 times, but also for not speaking in behalf or help Jesus when he was taken.Further in the book, there is supposed to be the Gospel of Judas, supposedly found back in the 70s? I'm not sure of the dates. I'll let you know how I like it when I'm done reading it.Happy reading.m

Does your brother deal with a puppet theatre? If yes I send him my Hello! As I more then 12 years work with the actors of our Belarusian puppet theatre. They play in our TV-programs for kids.Mogilyov is Belarusian town. So It was not far trip.As for Prague... Yes! You need to see it. Mucha museum and Kafka museum and many others! What I am reading... Hm. For travelling I have taken some modern russian detective stories. But couldn't read they!!! The rubbish for a brain! So I decided to reread kind old Hemingway. And what about you?
Hello Jack! Sorry for my long silence. But I have just come back from part of my vacation journey! I visited Prague. That was great! Amazing place! Old town, old history. I walked down the narrow streets and tried to feel this place by my ears, eyes, skin. Tried to imagine who lived here. I still hear its watch...Then Mogilyov was. It is native town of my husband. We had gone to see his father and sister. And now we with our kids are going to go to Black Sea in some days. So I am being still on way.How are you? What is new in your life? I hope all is good.My sincere respect and good wishings
I haven't had much time to finish my books. I'll be getting back to When God was a Woman sometime this week. I did pick up another book by Ehrman. This one is about the Lost Gospel of Judas. It looks very interesting. I think you might enjoy it. Also, it's not a very big book. How's the Poisonwood Bible?

It's okay. I wouldn't be offended over a differing opinion. I actually don't know many people who liked the book as much as I did. What I think I loved most about it was how I'd grown up hating the Wicked Witch of the West. She's one of the first evil characters you are introduced to as a child. She's an icon. And then Wicked questioned my judgment of her. He used such a good mix of the movie and the books by L. Frank Baum, that one could actually believe this is what her lot in life might have been. I don't know. I loved it. Jury is still out on Rand. I loved Part One and thought I'd love the book, but the incident at the beginning of Part Two has me questioning how sane and philosophical this woman actually was. We'll see.

Seriously, knowing that the publisher just slaps something on the cover makes it difficult for me to motivate myself to come up with some grand theory regarding the cover. I understand why you're avoiding the Breaking Dawn comments, though, I haven't seen anything remotely spoilery as of yet unless you count comments directed toward the first chapter which you can read in the stores or somewhere online, I think. There was a rather in depth discussion of the cover over there. I didn't get involved because 1.) I don't even /like/ the cover and 2.) I don't believe it means anything. The only cover that has any significance is the cover for Twilight. I think a good theory, while I hope it isn't true, is the pawn is Bella before she's a vamp: expendable, vulnerable and the Queen is Bella as a vamp: strong, powerful. But, again, I'm not putting too much thought into this because it would be wasted considering the publishers just slapped something on there.
I read Treasure Island ages ago as well. I could do that again. Probably in August though. I'm currently reading - too much. The Idiot; The Fountainhead; and The Woman in White. I'll be all over Breaking Dawn as well. Which we can discuss, but I'd rather discuss something smart with you.

As far as chick lit goes...I don't think it's what you're thinking. I think you're picturing harlequin romance novels, with the racy covers. The best way I can describe chick lit is take your standard "chick flick" and put it on paper. In fact, a lot of movies lately have been made from chick lit books. Think Bridget Jones' Diary or The Devil Wears Prada. It's nothing too taxing on the mind, and it's a little more substantive than a romance novel. Obviously, some chick lit authors are better than other. LIke the book I'm reading now is about a group of friends that grew up together in London, haven't seen each other in twenty years, and end up rediscovering their friendships when they all gather back up to attend the funeral of a friend who died in a terrorist attack in New York. Easy reading. In any event, no, I haven't read any other YA supernatural books. Unless you count all the RL Stine and Christopher Pike books I read as a kid :)
No I haven't read any. Adah and Leah were definitely my favorites. Rachel has the most growing to do, certainly. I don't blame you for hating the father. I thought of you the other day because we are discussing Three Musketeers slowly but surely on the Brilliant Babes & Dudes and, though I read the Modern Lib edition, they all read the newest Pevear edition. (I missed the memo). She's De Winter all right. Boo! But! Maya Angelou and a bunch of other celeb authors are listed as being on the editorial staff of Modern Library. I thought it was credible... We should read something together one of these months. I like our discussions, but they would be so much better if we were both... on the same page. What a bad pun. If you'd like to, anyway.
I don't typically read a lot of YA. I don't have anything against it, I just haven't gotten into it much. I do want to read the Harry Potter stuff, I think I'm the only person alive who hasn't read them yet. As far as anyone spoiling anything, I was very careful not to come on here while I was reading the Twilight stuff, because I didn't want to accidentally read something and have some important detail given away. I have to say, other than the alternate reality stuff, I tend to stick with chick lit. Me and my sister-in-law and some friends started a group on here, we're all big chick lit fans, and are trying to expose eachother to new types of books. I'm always open to something new, if you've got any suggestions.

oh yes, I liked the vampire armand, probably my favourite out of all the anne rice vampires. Not sure I liked his book the most though. I liked learing about Italy. 'Queen of the Damned' was probably the best - the one with the most vampires and the most interesting plot.
I see you read "Misquoting Jesus" and that you liked it. I'm glad. I liked both book.
I do plan to read the host. I'm not usually into aliens and such, but I enjoyed the Twilight series so much, I'll give it a shot. Sounds interesting anyways. I don't have a copy of Breaking Dawn reserved yet, but I'm sure I'll get impatient and buy it anyways. I'd love to wait for paperback, but I don't have that kind of patience. I've got tons of books at home I could read in the meantime, but once I get hooked on a series, I can NEVER wait for paperback.

I play dominoes, scoring on multiples of 5 with a spinner. Sorry to hear about your chess game. At least you're playing. I'm not yet.
Hi jack! No, I haven't read any other vampire series besides Anne Rice..I think interview was the best.A close second Queen of the Damned - I think that was the one that hooked me as it was more like a family saga -Interview was a bit melancholy. The series then gradually went downhill in my opinion.
So I read all three in the Twilight series last week...couldn't put them down. I'm hooked!
