I love to read books, obviously. There is nothing better than a day at the beach with a book
or a rainy day curled up with a book, or a cold wintry day,stuck inside with a book!I have 2 "bins" at home with about 80 books all waiting to be read ( and 3 book bags filled) !I am always on the hunt for a new author or new book to enjoy!

    That sale at UB sounds awesome. I’m really interested in the rare or unusual books section. The book sale here is usually within the first two weeks of May, I’ll definitely let you know when I hear exactly when and where it is. It’s normally held at the same place, but that building is for sale right now, so I imagine that could change.

    That would definitely be fun! A hard day of book shopping, topped off with a coffee :)

    The book sale I go to runs from a Friday to Sunday and I think Sunday is $5.00 for a bag. I’ll certainly let you know when I hear when it is. Not sure if you’re familiar with the area, but it’s usually held in the north end, just off Dorchester Rd. It’s really easy to get to. I’ll surely check out the UB book sale! Maybe we can go together... we’ll finally have our coffee! :)

    My mother loved Dickens when I was little (she even has a decorative Dickens plate collection I have my eye on). I don’t think I had to read Dickens in high school, I’m pretty sure I read them on my own. I’ve always been partial to excessive wordiness :)

    I haven’t been to Barnes & Noble at all- where is it? I normally buy books online these days, or I go to a big charity sale every year. There are great books there, in excellent condition and I think the most I’ve ever paid is $4.00 for a hardcover. Some are brand new. I think it’s in May, you should try to make your way up here for that one! It’s huge, people come from all over for that one. The rest of my books come from the library. I told myself I’d cut down on my book budget this year too... I don’t know why I bother!

    Laurie,
    May be cool - but as you say any beach is worth it no matter what the weather! We choose to go there because we love the solitude, having the beach virtually to yourself as well as the surrounding area. Could head south instead of north for warmer weather but over past three years keep being pulled back there and hope to spend another month there this Summer. This is when I do most of my reading!
    Hope you enjoy the Koomson books. Have read:
    Marshmallows for Breakfast;
    My Best Friend's Girl ( bit of a heartbreaker/ tear jerker);
    The Chocolate Run.
    Got two more on my bookcase:
    The Ice Cream Girls;
    The Cupid Effect (think its called this).
    Can't particularly remember American authors I can't get or difficult to get, but often if search for a book can be difficult to get hold off. Especially when published in America and not yet published in UK. E.g. Lionheart by Sharon Penman (out in March I think). Also as part of Mystery and Suspense Group for February searched for Hunter by Robert Bidinotto and would cost about £28.00 to get hold of (approximately $44.00). Just tend to have problems when after some books - but getting better at searching internet - but not always successful.

    Much cooler at Dunnet! Average for hottest time of year (July and August) is around about 61 degrees farenheit. But does have approximately 16 hours of daylight during the Summer (17 hours around 21st June). About a three mile walk across the bay.
    Hope you enjoy Dortohy Koomson if you manage to get hold of one of her books. Have similar problem in this country with some American authors!

    I noticed you said free beaches, does that mean you have to pay to go on some beaches or that some you can't go onto? This comment makes me want to go to Candad to explore the beaches!
    Water is very blue / green in this area. Tends to be darker in some areas of UK but there are other areas just heavenly! This would be one of them. A number of places in Devon and Cornwall like that. Will keep my eyes peeled for the other beaches, and will upload some other beaches myself.

    Think I would be lying if i said Northern Scotland was hot, even in the Summer! Althoughpast few Summers been quite cool over here, but lovely secluded location. May only be between 5 - 10 people on whole beach at times, and wonderful location for reading. Its usually warm enoungh for us - but tend to go back each year over past three years because we love the location so much. Agree Cornwall is lovely (especially around Sennen Cove, Lan;s End, St. IVes and Newquay)as is a lot of the coast, Blackpool very commercial but great place to go to if want to see Blackpool Illuminations in September and October. If you do ever comeover I would also recommend North Wales and South-West Wales coastline, North Wales very historic area with a lot of wonderful castles still in evidence. May is about the right time here as well, but possibly hottest in April last year. Crazy weather we have had over past 12 months, seasons all seem to be out of sequence! Thought you might like the Avatar.

    I have a kindle and I am able to increase the font so I can read while walking on the treadmill. With the Kindle, I don't have to worry about keeping the book open, it just sits there and I just click the button to turn pages. Makes walking on the treadmill a lot more fun.
    I finished Life of Pi last night. I really enjoyed it. Don't know if it is the type of book for everyone. Lots of theory on religion and also animal instincts and behavior which I found very interesting.
    I am now reading The Boy in the Suitcase. Written by a swedish author, so similar to Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I have to get use to the names, places and language. So far it is really good. I am only about 45 pages into it.

    A woman after my own heart! I love the beach and spend as much of the Summer Months as possible in North of Scotland but not got a picture of the beach accessible at the moment, so have uploaded as my avatar one of my other favourite beach settings. This is in South Devon, near Dartmouth. Looking forward to going back there at Easter

    I am really enjoying Life of Pi. It is actually pretty funny at part and I find myself laughing out loud. Which can be embarrassing at times because I will read while on the treadmill at the YMCA. People just give me a strange look because I am just trotting along on the treadmill laughing.

    Like you Laurie I tend to use Amazon to pick up second hand books that cannot pick up anywhere else. Loving your Avatar - very peaceful and relaxing!

    Believe me, I won't think any less if you don't finish the book. It was just too weird. I got Life of Pi on the Daily deal on amazon for the kindle for $0.99 and I always wanted to read it. So I hope it is as good as I think it is going to be. Don't need another bummer of a book.

    You're welcome Laurie, and thank you in return.
    In the past tended to just pick up books from charity shops and this has led to read a wide range of books. Starting to be more selective - mainly enjoy historical fiction, timeslip, thrillers, suspense, mystery and Da Vinci Code style books (although that example was one of the weaker ones). However will sometimes read lighter fiction including romance. Suppose really will read anything! Like you always on the lookout for new authors. Notice you've got The Shell Seekers as a favourite, I've got a copy of this on my physical shelf and must get to it! I really enjoyed Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. Doesn't look like you've read it so may be interested to keep an eye out for it. Andrew

    I finished the book last night. It totally lost me at times. It is very strange. The time line is confusing, it jumps around so much. Toward the end it started to make sense to me, and then it lost me again. I am sooooo glad I am done with that book.
    I totally agree it is cross of water for elephants and Twilight. What a great way to put that.
