The Basics:

I am 26 years old, have been happily married for 6 years to a NON reader :) and I have 2 tots, a 2.5 year old and a 10 month old. I love to read and tend to prefer the classics. I also tend to read books that give me a mental challenge (whether I like it or not). ...more »

hey...I find it hard to want to recommend "The Crying of Lot 49" to anyone for fear that they are going to hate me later lol...I had to read it for school so that's how I had come across it. It's definitely a postmodern classic. If you've liked another book by him, you may like this one.

We actually have two books in common lol! I just read a different version of Fahrenheit 451. I really want to start reading some classics, but they are always so intimidating. Can you recommend one to start with?

Surprisingly like the movie! Well, you may not agree about my assessment of History of Love but it's basically the same plot and similar characters. Let's just say I felt a huge sense of deja vu after reading it....

    Hi!

Did you already read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer? That's Nicole Krauss's husband and the books are incredibly similar but I preferred Foer's. But it's still a good book. As for Nick Hornby, I really liked his last one, Slam, and About a Boy is very good, too.

    Hope that helps! :-)

Yes, I am from Wisconsin and I loved Sister Salty Sister Sweet. It was a laugh out loud book for me. I live about 90 miles from where the authors live - their mother wrote Carry Me Home and Book of Bright Ideas which both very good as well. We have a little in comman if you are originally from Wisconsin because I also married a NON reader and have 2 boys.
Take Care and get Sister Salty Sister Sweet.

First of all, I like the fact that you write reviews quite often :)
Secondly, "skimmed the pages out of boredom"?? I'm about to start ULYSSES and I have to say I'm rather disappointed already! :( I'm actually nervous about it!!! I have an idea of Odyssey and the Bible, now you informed me I've got to check on Wikipedia's archives on Irish History...what else? Get a dictionary, an encyclopedia maybe? Gosh.. Thank God I'm reading the greek translation! :)

Yea - I am thinking that some of the girls in my class might have read it or parents might want to know if I have an opinion about it because it is so popular right now, so I thought I would check it out! (Not particularly crazy about vampires, though! Not an Anne Rice fan).

Peggy suggested reading the book "Sister Salty, Sister Sweet" for our first book, but the majority of the reviews said it was boring. Do you have another suggestion?

I started a group called Read-a-Likes, and I'm trying to get some active readers involved in the group to help create lists of, well, read-a-likes. The group is small as I just started it the other day and only have a few posts, but I'd really like to get some more active members that can help create these lists. I think that it would come in handy for other members that are looking for some helpful readers advisory. Check out the group if you're interested: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/26266/about (i think that might work, haha). Again, the group's name is Read-a-likes.

    Thanks

    K.

the man is overrated, kind of like the circus freak show im reading now. What, because he writes in his story the crude and real buttlove life of homosexuality and emo, that i'm not supposed to notice that his writing sucks. His story is simple man babble, albeit gay simple man babble. his quality as a writer matches that of dick and jane reads. but yeah, eggers is overrated.
