A real book is not one that we read, but one that reads us. W.H. Auden
A book is truly a friend that is always there for you. And it's never at a loss for words. :) As a dear friend once told me, "with reading, you can be an armchair tourist to...more »

Hi John, I hope all is well with you. Yes, that is my special little guy. He loves to play when I am on the computer. Take care, Diana

Yes, it was one of the last places we visited before i flew back here. Too bad i was many years late in visiting, i would have liked to make the acquaintance of their famous inmate, the one staying at cell 181, inmate #85 at Madison avenue..ha ha ha!

I read a story where one fire in Eastern NC may smolder for months because of the decayed vegetation in the soil. That's scary.
I haven't read any Jude Deveraux in years. She was pretty good if I remember correctly. I think it was one of her big romances I read, though. Have to check her out again. I'm not reading too much new stuff right now as I am trying to write my own book. Don't want to get distracted.

Good to hear from you, buddy! I am reading a Michael Chabon right now, but I sprinkle the harder stuff with fluff. My problem is that I tend to read so fast that I often have to go back to see if I missed something!--Wish I had been in CO last night! We had tornadoes popping up all over the area! One came very close. Scary!!

You will get a lot out of "Waking the Tiger" and "I Can't Get Over It". I did.

Hadn't heard about that one, but then I don't watch much local news on the weekends. Well, not too terribly much on weekdays either. We got a little bit of rain here today. Maybe they got some as well. Wildfires are scary things, and very hard to fight. I'll have to check out the NC news websites.

Don't know about the people having one leg longer than the other, but the cows and goats do. ;-)

I was in J'ville in the 80s. Left in late 1990. Longest I was ever in one spot until I moved up here.
It was around 91 here today - 94 in Asheville. Pretty sure there's not really a heat index up here; almost no humidity to speak of. One thing I like about it here. But, we get a lot of ozone issues up here lately - warnings for people with breathing problems to stay inside and such. Lots of pollen floating around, too. Allergies are kicking everyone's butts. Just wish it would rain. We're 6 inches below what we should be right now, with no end in sight. (Now that I've written a book....) :0)

No problem I'm currently reading Duma Key by Stephen King. Its about a man who gets in a car accident and can then mysteriously paint beautiful pictures. However it is King so there is evil afoot.

Yes, Filipino. Some of our words are Spanish (owing to the 3 centuries of Spanish rule) i took up Spanish in college also, a requirement. It's a beautiful language.
