i am so sorry to have taken so long to answer your note...forgive me?

Mark and i have been cutting firewood.on my land..so i can burn it in my little woodstove that sits in my fireplace..in my living room...i don't want to spend a Fortune on Heating Oil this year..my furnace burns oil..anything to save some money...the cutting/hauling/stacking wood is exhausting..so, reading is definitely in the back seat

keep sipping ULYSSES..you won't regret it

nothing you can say to me is is indiscreet or rude...ask away...i will answer any questions the best way i can

    hello there lady-

The Poisonwood Bible is a novel that takes place in the (Belgian) Congo circa 1959-1960...at the time of its Independence (from Belgium)...and after the murder of Patrice Lumumba..the first elected President/Prime Minister

it tells the woeful tale of an American baptist Missionary family who goes to the Congo...and the tragedies that befall them...mainly for the fact that they came in at such an awful time...and that they were woefully unprepared for life In The Bush as it were...it'a a wonderful, heartbreak of a book....i recommend it to anyone who asks...

ah Dostoievski...my RUSSIAN phase was quite young...14/15/16...but i reread most of the major works in my 20s & 30s....maybe i'll read 'em all again before i shuffle off this mortal coil.......oh, NEWS FLASH!!!! you read THE IDIOT in Two Days!!i am impressed..it took me two months...hmmmm...you some kind of prodigy or something??? (kidding here, okay?)

i gotta go...my dinner is maybe burning...will write more later

LOL, i am a sloth by nature..a slug..i would rather stay in the house, or sit on my back porch, and read...but alas! i am the only one here, so if work has to be done i gotta do it

Congratulations on the ULYSSES feat: and without alcohol? i am impressed!

Hmmm.... I'm not sure Shelfari's recent facelift is a good thing when it comes to noticing new notes. Sorry!

My formal education was rather deficient in poetry, so I've been trying to make up for that here and there. Probably my favorite poem at present is Emily Dickinson's Poem 434 a.k.a. Much Madness is Divinest Sense -- a rather common choice, I'm sure. The primary thread of commonality between the poets I've liked so far is that they're all dead. :) I feel like I'm skimming right now, like a wave runner bouncing along the ocean of poetry, picking up individual poems and/or here and there.

So far I've enjoyed the works of Tennyson, Robbie Burns, Robert Browning, E. B. Browning, Christina Rosetti, some Dylan Thomas, George Herbert, Samuel T. Coleridge, some John Donne, some Byron, some Wordsworth, Emily Dickinson, e. e. cummings, Poe, T. S. Eliot, and Edgar Allan Poe. For epic poetry, I love Beowulf and sections from Tolkien. I'm reading the Iliad at present, but haven't made up my mind about how I feel towards it.

Do you have and favorite poets/poems? Any recommendations?

I just closed cover on the first horror novel I've read in years. Not sure how I feel about it. Horror is one genre I just don't easily appreciate.

    my best to you

Hi Alice, it's so nice to meet you! :) My name is Anna and I'm from Poland. I am a journalist and my reading is not much connected to my job. It reflects my sociological interests (that's what I study). What particular books are you interested in? :)

'Tess of the D'urbervilles' is the only other Hardy book I've read. I enjoyed it very much and hope to read it again later this year. 'Tess' is an incredible mixture of joy and sadness. I've only read one chapter of 'Under the Greenwood Tree' so I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I'm glad to hear 'Jude the Obscure' is a great book. It's on my to read list. I will let you know what I think of 'Under the Greenwood Tree' when I finish. Take care!

dupa mult prea multe aventuri am reusit sa citesc The agony and the ecstasy. E o carte foarte usor de citit, foarte placuta si care reuseste totusi sa impresioneze. Nu e chiar in topul preferintelor mele dar o recomand cu multa caldura- e o carte puternica si foarte placuta.
