Hi, I love Irish history and as sad as the history of Ireland is during this time period, I felt that this book was well written and gave the reader a lot of perspective about what it was like during the Irish Civil War.

I normally like Morgan Llywelyn's books about Irish History. I like the way she creates a fictional story about true events. I did not care too much for this book and was disappointed. I felt it became too soap opera-y and I found at the end that it wasn't a book I would willingly read again, which is how I judge a lot of my books.

I enjoy Frank McCourt's books. It's been awhile since I read this, but I remember feeling that I could identify with his words on teaching.

I very recently read this after watching the BBC miniseries on PBS. I loved this book. Part of me couldn't believe I was reading a Charles Dickens book, and I had never even heard of this novel before. I love the characters. I know I blogged at length about this book and movie. I flew through the book fairly fast and loved the chemistry between all the characters and the story line.

I liked this book very much. I admit it took me longer than usual to read it than other books, but I think that's because it moves a bit more slowly throughout the story. To sum, it's a tale of a young man trying to find a certain travelling Irish storyteller for his own reasons and along the way in his own journey and the readers, we get to hear lots of folk tales about Ireland's history. The folk tales alone make it worth reading, but I liked the main character and his own story also.

This has been one of my favorite books of all time since I was a little girl. I have read it many many times. To me, it's a must read for any young girl growing up and if you missed it then for any woman now. As a girl, my favorite characters were Beth and Jo, but as I grew older, newly married, I couldn't help relating to Meg in her newly married life. The jam scene has brought smiles to my heart when feeling frustrated with feeling overwhelmed with being a mom, and wife. Jo, will always be my favorite character though simply for what she represents to me as a young woman growing up and finding her way among the daily turns of life.
