It does not matter how you read it as long as you read it with a real hunger to understand it. Only God (the true author of the books) knows your heart, and he will help you to understand.

Regarding your comment about reading the Bible as a novel...along with what Ho Lee suggests, I would also suggest that you try to find one of the new chronological Bibles...they are still the Bible but put in what historians believe is the order the books of the Bible were written...I was just thinking it would make a more sensible "flow" for someone trying to read it as a novel. But, either way, if you ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you through it as you read, I'm sure you will get plenty from it!

hi laura,I noticed your comment about the BIBLE, that youplanned to read it like a novel. I will just tell you my experience.trying to be brief, I tried reading the BIBLE that way the firsttime and it did not make much sense to me (at least parts of it were hard to understand.) Then someone told me to ask the HOLY SPIRITinto my heart and I would "get it". It took me years but I finally tried this, inviting the Spirit inside, and the BIBLE opened up to me. HE is also knownas the spirit of truth. SO, I offer this as a possibility if you wish to get much more out of the experience.
