I love to read good books of any sort and I recognize 'The Big Lebowski' to be the most hilarious movie of all time.

    HELLOOOOOOO THERE.

So good to here from you. I have been meaning to send you a personal e-mail... I am sorry to hear that you are stressed. Hopefully, it is good stress.

We missed Lebowski fest again. One day we may make it.

Have you seen "Revolutionary Road." I just watched it the other night. I thought it was great. I am glad they did it justice. It made me want to quit my job and move to Paris.

    Talk soon!

Hi, Angelina--I'm good, and you? How's your project coming? Thanks much for recommending the Diane Middlebrook book. The library here doesn't have it on CD but got it yesterday in hardback. After Madame Bovary and a couple of others, maybe. So many books....! You're reading "Edgar Sawtelle"--that's one I really want to read, think I'm going to love it. What do you think? I'm guessing that you love it, especially since he communicates with his dogs, right? The Post here raved about it--dogs, mute boy, Hamlet retelling, what's not to love? Maybe Matt will choose it for the group--that would be terrific! Right now, I'm giving Jonathan Lethem a try. Have you read anything by him? The CD book of "The Fortress of Solitude" is really well read. Like his writing style--4 CDs in and he's smoothly juggling a lot of characters, maybe a few too many, not sure yet. He probably needs to take this much time to show the slow evolving of the relationships Dylan is struggling to have, not to mention the terror he feels as he tries to negotiate some areas of his neighborhood. The best book I've read lately is Roxana Robinson's "Cost"--that one ripped me apart. Family trying to rescue their drug-addicted son/brother/grandson. On that happy note, I'd better get to listening to doctors--whee!
    Take care, A.J.,

Hi, Angelina--I just finished a book on CD that I think you might like. It's called "The Soul Thief" by Charles Baxter. The reader is a little bit affected sounding, but I found it a good story that asks (and doesn't tie up answers with a tidy bow) all kinds of questions about identity and personality. I hope you like it if you decide to give it a try. Cheers, Leslie

i thought we lost you for good.

definitely check out the bad girl. i think you will enjoy llosa's style. i am reading history of love now. i forgot if you read it/liked it. i am enjoying it very much. in fact, when i read it i feel like i am on the reading rainbow.

I haven't started "Out" yet... and probably won't until this weekend... so maybe you can catch us. Next, I think we are going to read Madame Bovary. Have you read it. I thought that it was time for a classic.

Libowski fest sounds like a lot of fun. I will definitely have to check it out some time.

See you soon on the world wide interweb.

Angelina--Truth be told, I'm also listening it to on CD--not in the car but at home while I knit blankies. Really original. Interesting that one of the main things that terrifies Danny is not being able to communicate with the world outside and that he's the made-up character of Ray in prison and Danny is very much Howard's prisoner. I'm at the part where Mick just found him in town--uh,oh. Your project must be going like gangbusters--good luck with it. Better start listening to docs--Leslie

Finished "White Teeth" and I miss Archie already. Thanks for the recommendation. Each time I got to a new part, I found myself wanting to read more about that person, but then within 5 pages, was totally invested in the new character's story. LOVED the ending. Can we start an O'Connell's Poolroom where only Shelfari members can come in?
I also saw that you added "Harris Burdick" - one of my faves. Have you read the new edition with the 15th drawing?

I finished "The Keep." I really liked it; totally hard to put down. I'm even more confident now in my recommendation of "House of Leaves," though I must admit, anytime I recommend favorites it makes me nervous. I will tell you that the writing style of "House of Leaves" is a bit of a puzzle itself. To figure out the story, sometimes its necessary to figure out how to read the story. The physical nature of the words on the page often parallels the action. I hope you have as much fun with it as I have. Its the first (and only) book I've read that actually made me scared to look over my shoulder.

I just started "The Keep" this afternoon and its really reminding me of "House of Leaves" by Mark Danielewski (one of my all-time faves). It would really surprise me if Egan hadn't read it. While not similar at all in plot, the experimental narrative style, and maze-like, 'meta-normal' nature of the setting have a great deal in common. Having read your review of "The Keep" I think you may like Danielewski's book. So far I'm getting sucked into Egan's already. As soon as I finish typing this I'm headed back out to the lawn chair to read a few more chapters.
