Are you enjoying LOTR? I read The Hobbit and book 1 in the Trilogy. I never finished book 2 or 3. One day I will pick it up again.
I just watched a really awesome adaptation of Great Expectations on BBC. It's got a modern flare to it and was broken down into a 3 part mini-series. Greg loved it too. It made me want to pick up the book again. I am obsessed with Miss. Havisham!!

Kindle Fire!! Wow..that's cool. I still don't have one. I am not sure how I feel about the whole e-reader thing. I am kinda old school, but maybe I will cave in eventually. The Gemma Doyle series is good. It's YA reading...you must have heard about the triliogy; "A Great and Terrible Beauty," "Rebel Angels." Can't remember the name of the third book. Greg is reading the Hunger Games series. He NEVER reads for fun so I know the books must be good!

I miss you too! That sounds like a great idea. Anj is currently on a "classics" kick. She has made it her goal to read ALL of them.....I would like to attempt to read a handful this year. It always helps to have discussion on those to get through the text.
So, where do we start? We have to get Anj back on shelfari and then create a group? I will get in touch with her asap.

Working on Little Dorritt by Dickens...it's slow right now. I always have difficulty with his work, with the exception of Great Expectations (one of my favs). Even though his stuff is hard for me to get through, I always feel like it was worth it when I finish.
I haven't started Hunger Games yet, but it looks like a quick read. I will let you know what I think when I am done.
I am working on Bag of Bones by King and To the End of the Land, one of Obama's picks. I guess he read it over the summer and highly recommended it. I am not an Obama fan, but so far the book is pretty deep. A real thought provoker.
I will have to check out The Infernal Devices series. I haven't heard of that one yet.
Can't wait to get my hands on the latest King 11 22 63. I am obsessed with JFK and the 60's. I just watched The Kennedys mini-series on A&E with Katie Holmes as Jackie O. Sooo good!!

Hey Jacolyn! Yes, I still use this site. I've been reading a lot and it helps me keep track of what I've read and titles I want to pick up. Right now I am hooked on Stephen King. I usually don't read that kind of stuff but I am struggling with Dickens so I figured I would take a brake and switch things up a bit. I hope you are well and have some extra reading time this Christmas break.
P.S. I just picked up the first Hunger Games book. Did you read/like it?

I saw your note on Anne Frank and questioning The Book Thief - I'm going to recommend something a little odd - Wicked. I think a good parallel with the idea of Nazis. It's about the questioning and relativity of evil and good. There are some particullarly good examples in the definition of "A"nimals and "a"nimals which allows the citizens of Oz to justify the ill treatment and scientific experiment.

You're very welcome. I think that would be a suitable book for 8th graders, with some good discussion opportunities for comparing the experiences of two young girls during the war.
