Can you tell me if I should consider reading Within the Shadows?
Oh, I think you meant you liked Terror and are going to give Drood a chance (sorry). In The Terror, you really get to see Simmon's writing style and the thought and detail he puts into describing the intricacies of his characters. Drood does have that same element and if you liked that, I think you will enjoy immersing yourself into the novel.
Hi Renee, It sounds like maybe you finished Terror? Or perhaps still reading it. It is a great book, and I'd say his best that I have read. Glad you liked it. (-: Let me know after you finished what you thought as a whole.
Hi Renee. I don't know exactly what your interests are but this book is a big investment timewise, and it deals a lot with victorian England, Charles Dickens and a close friend of his and lesser writer, Wilkie Collins. A lot of the book revolves around their activities but is also woven around a strange, bizarre character named Edwin Drood (fictitious of course) who provides the supernatural element. I had a peripheral interest in Charles Dickens and his involvement in the events surrounding the 1860 Polar Expeditions and that is why I was able to enjoy all of the extraneous events that take place in the book. If you have read and enjoyed other Dan Simmons books, I would say give it a try, but if this is your first Simmons book, I would say maybe try another of his shorter books first to see what his writing style is like. Hope this helps
Renee, I'll have to try "Never Let Me Go." Sean (17 yr. old) is almost finished with Atlas Shrugged. He's like me in that he's not deterred by the length of a book. I read Michener's Centennial the summer I was 14 as we drove cross country in our motor home. I love long historicals like my all time fave The Pillars of the Earth. On anoter topic, Brian has completed his hospital orientation and we're waiting for him to start. Thanks, again, for steering us towards that oppty.See you at the library.
Yea thanks, I spent a couple of hours I should have been packing. It is allot of fun.
Renee,do you plan on reading "Never Let Me Go" too? Have you ever read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand? It's a classic from the 1950's. Sean (17 yr. old) says the video game BioShock is based on the book and he's been talking about it a lot lately. I think I"ll have to buy him a copy and I might just read it myself.
