Thanks so much for your opinion on Deliverance Dane. I was kinda wondering about how well the whole dual timeline aspect of it worked... but, I guess it would almost be a bit weird if one timeline wasn't better to read than the other. Anyway, I've decided I'm going to read it. Luckily if it does rain, my library is only across the road!By the way, I love your profile pic =)
Hey Your pick is AWESOME!!!!
Thanks Isabelle:) I was in for almost 4 years (ages ages ages ago) My son is 15 and I got out 15 years ago.
I just wanted to tell you how totally cool your profile photo is. Love the image of a person getting 'hugged' by text on a page. Awesome! Is there (ahem) a good story behind it??
I thought the book kind of glowed, both the setting and the characters. Living here in Florida, I enjoy reading books with a winter setting...flickering firelight, steaming cups of spice tea, the smell of a log cabin. Penny delivers all that, but I do agree her plot lines get a little out there. Speaking of out there, I'm getting ready to start Thomas Pychon's new noir...should BE GOOD
I'm back and congrats on winning the book. It is really good. Send me your address and I'll ship it out.
Hi Isabelle! You successfully completed our Challenge Grammar Rules! I invite you to take your second vote or should I just double the one you already made? Have a nice day! kolibri
I am always so flattered when you get an idea from my shelf, Isabelle. I got a few of those new book possibilities from a book club website email. Thanks for the heads up on City of Thieves.I like the Doctor's Wife so far - have you read it? I didn't realize what sort of plots would be woven together...
Wow, you have a wonderful icon :)
Isabelle;Oh I am jealous. Let me know how it is.
It's ok Isabelle. I did read it and finish it in time. I thought it was pretty good. I'm now reading the Miracle Life of Edgar Mint for book club. Have your read it?
That I can do! Shelley Adina's It's All About Us series is fantastic. I also loved Debbie Viguie's Sweet Seasons series. Anne Dayton and May Vanderbilt's Miracle Girls series is very well done. I think these have a nice mix of faith and romance without being too worldly or too preachy. I didn't enjoy Melody Carlson's The Carter Girls series, but I've heard good things about her Diary and Color series. I hope that helps!
Me, too. I just wish someone would pay me to stay home and read. I always enjoy checking your shelf for new reads and I love this avatar.
thanks for your answer (should i read howl's moving castle?)....i love your avatar! so meaningful and cool!
Thanks for the kind words. We hear good things about the survival rate on this one so we are very hopeful. Getting there will require a fight but Mom's strong and healthy in every other way.By the way, I love your "hugging" avatar!
I saw the Bugliosi book on display at the library along with the Dunne book and I was with my daughter and I started telling her about everything that happened - she was a baby during the chase - and I guess I couldn't believe the outcome all over again and starting devouring the books. If I Did It was really disturbing. (I didn't want anyone to even see me with it!) This Toobin book is a very good account of what went on - I really had forgotten the details regarding evidence and his nondescript statements.
I've been mooching through your shelves already lol!
Thank you for your response to my question. Glad to hear someone else thought the characterization in “The Help” was a bit too cliché. Someone told me “The Help” was as good as “To Kill a Mockingbird”, one of my favorite books, so I was pretty disappointed when it didn’t live up to all the hype. I am pushing on with it and I must admit I’m beginning to enjoy it more.Yes, “My Own Country” is by Dr. Abraham Verghese, an Indian physician treated AIDS patients in rural Tennessee. Do you remember if you liked it?Thank you for the suggestion to read “Mudbound” by Hillary Jordan. It sounds like a good read. I’ve added it to my “Plan To Read Shelf”. I do listen to audio books, mostly just in the car driving to and from work, but I prefer to listen to non-fiction. It’s easier for me to break off when I get to work. With a compelling work of fiction I would run the risk of being late to work because I’m sitting in my car too enthralled to stop. lol Maybe for “Mudbound” I’ll make an exception and try to get the audio version of it. Thanks again.
Absolutely wonderful avatar!
