I just finished reading book 12 of the Dresden Files, "Changes" - Book 12. I won't spoil the read, but they just get better and better down the line. I can't wait for "Ghost Story" due out on July 26th, 2011.

Love the Dora at the Dentist book. The dentist even looks like Dr. Dalila Harris. I also want to read the necessity book. It will be next on my library list. Thrilled about the Rosary book. A hundred year old book still in good shape.

Those gray areas set precedent. It's one of the reasons I'm not happy about the current administration clinging to the previous administration's declaration of war on terrorists. The Iraq war fits that gray area headed to the black and so does this Afghanistan War. It was how we ended up in Vietnam and the one I am also aware of is the Spanish American War. Teddy Roosevelt really steamrolled us into that one with the aide of the President. I am interested in Pre Civil War. Yes, I want to read that book. I have a movie on TJ and SH I'll bring to you. It was very well done. In the movie it was brought out that SH was TJ's first wife's half sister. Apparently SH looked so much like TJ's dead wife, whom he loved deeply, he fell deeply in love with SH but never forgot she was his slave. SH was 14 when the affair began and I believe TJ was in his late 30's? Great story. It amazes me that Americans make our President's sinless pure Gods when they are anything but.

You are reading books that I am definitely interested in. I would love to know what you think about the one you are reading right now, the undeclared wars. Just a heads up. We are discussing creating a book club at work. Lucy and I are working on guidelines and ideas. I know this is something we talked about. I already have some ideas. But, please let me know about these new books you are reading. I know they have to do with school, but they look good to me.

Thanks for your response! Did you choose Anna Karenina from my shelf? It was on the required reading list for a college course many years ago, and is still one of my favorites. I recommend Stephen King's On Writing as a non-scary alternative to his fiction. I'll look forward to seeing you and Ryan in my class next Thursday. JB

    Hi Amber,
Jim Bradner suggested I pass this along to you.

I've included one of my favorite quotes from a Stephen King novel. You might consider consider forwarding it to Amber. I'll admit much of his writiing is indeed 'scary,' but not all (e.g. Different Seasons). Also, I have a copy of The Deep Blue Goodbye I'll bring to work for you tomorrow. Here's the quote:

By the time I had the mounted tire back in my trunk and had paid the guy two bucks for the job, the early evening light had become the fading purple of late evening. The shadow of each bush was long and velvety, and as I cruised slowly back up the street I saw the day's last light streaming almost horizontally through the trash-littered space between the Arby's and the bowling alley. That light, so much flooding gold, was nearly terrible in its strange, unexpected beauty. I was surprised by a choking panic that climbed up in my throat like dry fire. It was the first time a feeling like that came over me that year—that long strange year—but not the last. Yet it's hard for me to explain, or even define. It had something to do with realizing that it was August 11, 1978, that I was going to be a senior in high school next month, and that when school started again it meant the end of a long, quiet phase of my life. I was getting ready to be a grown-up, and I saw that somehow—saw it for sure, for the first time in that lovely but somehow ancient spill of golden light flooding down the alleyway between a bowling alley and a roast beef joint. And I think I understood then that what really scares people about growing up is that you stop trying on the life-mask and start trying on another one. If being a kid is about learning how to live, then being a grown-up is about learning how to die.

Hi, Amber. See my recent note to our mutual friend and coworker in which I've included a non-scary quote from a novel by Stephen King, one of my favorite authors. I'm just getting started on this site, so let me know if you would like to be on my friends list. I'll see if I can figure out how to send you an inviation before I sign off. Thanks!
