I really enjoyed The Host and would definitely recommend it.

Having read a couple of Meyer's other books from the, ahem, Twilight series, ahem (I know, I'm way past the marketers' intended demographic, and yes, it's totally mainstream to like them, but I can't help it!), I was pleased to find her writing just as engaging, though it definitely has a different tone and pace in this book. She really has a handle on putting you in the characters' universe - it's so easy to read her books (and I don't mean that in a bad way).

However, along with a bunch of other reviewers online, I would add the caveat to my recommendation that the beginning is not sooo great. I mean, it's good, don't get me wrong, but it's pretty easy to put the book down (which was a bit weird after her other stuff). But you have to stick with it and not skip ahead (who does actually skip ahead?), because you need the beginning for everything else (erm, much like most books), and 'cos it gets good - very good! Btw, when I say beginning, it's kind of a chunk, and doubt might creep in… but then you'll get to around the 115 page mark and BAM! it picks right up, and you'll wish people would stop writing you ridiculously long replies to I-was-just-being-polite-jeez-I-wasn't-that-interested questions so you can go read some more! Seriously, you'll be surprised how quickly you've finished a 624 page book!

Wow! I should really shut-up already! Anyway, I hope you read it and that you like it (no pressure!). Let me know what you thought of it if you do read it. =)

I love her stories...A good yarn is great along with the subsequent follow up books, and her Cedar Cove series is awesome.

Yes, I just finished 92 PACIFIC BOULEVARD, the newest.
If you like these, go to Robyn Carr's website. Her Virgin River series and Grace Valley series are wonderful

Not necessarily. But you only have to go by the FIRST number in the address. The community becomes home. Each person that lives at that address is the central figure in the book but all the community members keep having a part in the story.

The book Palestine by Karl Sabbagh that's in my list is pretty good. There's one called Israel/Palestine by Tanya Reinhart that's good too. Anything that either Noam Chomsky or Edward Said has written about the Middle East would be worthwhile too.

Hey! Read American Rust - it's about people from around Pittsburgh. Give you some insight into the locals. I thought it was really good. It's kind of a boy book though.

I'm plowing through it. It's really interesting - so different from normal people. So far, it sounds like Liberty University is a personality cult and they do a lot of re-programming of the students when they arrive there. Still trying to figure out what makes them tick.

The Buzzard was interesting, but it felt like you were getting a really slanted view of what happened. It was all from John Gorman's perspective and, of course, he was at the center of everything and was the most important element of everything.that.ever.happened at WMMS. Just sayin'....
    It was entertaining, though.

    Hi Lisa,
I really like the series by Wendy Roberts. The books have humor, romance, suspense and very good details on the subject of cleaning up a crime scene.
Let me know what you think after reading.

    Yes I would recommend Wizards 1st rule, being the 1st of I think 12 books, the last one of which was only completed in 2007. Also I understand it has been turned into a TV series that is airing in the States, but don't see it until you read the book, {plot spoiler}

Dear Lisa: I am an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April.

HUNTING is a fast-paced page-turner that follows archaeologist Molly O'Dwyer into war torn Iraq in search of the remains of Jesus. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father, and after her mother’s death was raised on the campus of a Jesuit university. ForeWord Magazine says: "Fans of intellectual thrillers and historical fiction will find a worthy new voice in Clenott. His best invention may be Molly O’Dwyer, a genuinely likable heroine who more than holds her own in a man’s world. An ambitious scientist, she is also an observant Catholic whose heart and mind don’t always agree. Given such an auspicious start, the sequel can't come too soon."

To get a good sense of how exciting the novel is check out the heart-pounding trailer for the book on YouTube.

    Thanks.

    Hi, Lisa.

Thanks so much. I'm not sure where most folks get their avatars, but I made my own! I'm a huge historical romance buff, so I wanted something that really reflected that. Couldn't find anything already made that I liked, so I tried my hand at creating one and this is what I came up with! Glad you like it.

I love books that have the beach included in them. Maybe it is because I spent allot of time growing up at the beach. If you know of any books that talk about the beach, please let me know. Thanks, Sandra
