I love reading (obviously), art, poetry, gardening, and nature. I enjoy and will recommend just about any book; however, I especially enjoy fantasy, science fiction, realistic or historical fiction. Occasionally, I read heavy material with philosophical undertones.

aw thanks! i see you have a new avater too! Is that a tree from your garden? Im glad to hear you've been doing well and that you like college. yeah, twilight sucked, but my friends used to force me to watch it, giving me the opportunity to see how lame the actors and special effects were each time. there are wires in the shot in almost all the running and climbing scenes, and that kirsten girl never closes her mouth or shows emotion! yeah, i like the percy jackson books too. they're easy to read when you need a break from darker or heavier books. Wicked lovely was great! Dark and creepy at pionts, but still one of my favorites, i'm sure you'll like it. so you read maximum ride then? did you see the manga? i read it and i have to say, although it sticks to the original text pretty well, the characters look all wrong to me. things are going pretty well here, but school is pretty hectic with the holidays coming. i think all my teachers are trying to pack three weeks of work into this week! my dogs name is gracie :) my exams are after break. i've had 2 shows with chorus this week.have i bored you? it seems i've been rambling :) . i'm sorry. write back soon?

Hey! I'm so sorry i didn't reply sooner, highschools been hectic and i haven't come on in forever! oh, i guess you don't know who this is huh? i was *Alice*Cullen* but i gave up twilight. stupid movies ruined it for me. so i got a new username.
    How's everything going?
so you saw Katy Pary and Metro Station? wow! sure beats what my school did. of course that was middle school, so its understandable.
Senior year. wow. so i guess you've graduated by now. huh. that feels kind of weird, seeing as im just a freshman now.
i'm so sorry about your teacher. i know how you feel. one of my elementry scool teachers died last year, and no one cared. it was really sad how unfeeling some people can be.
Once again, i know where you're coming from, being "friends" but not really having someone to turn to? It can be hard to deal with, especially if none of your old friends went to your highschool. or maybe you did bring some freinds with you to highschool, but you never saw them and you kind of drifted apart? and soon enough they don't even talk to you? I'm sorry, i've slipped into present tense. its just, thats kinda happening to me. all my friends are leaving me behind. sorry, didn't mean to bring myself into this, we were talking about you right now.
ah, the pictures. yeah, i know about that. at least you don't have to worry about embarrassing pictures of you popping up everywhere. not ones where you're looking anyway. but taking the pictures isn't so bad, is it? i mean photography is a form of art, and art always comes through, even when people don't.
I wish you luck in college. i hope you find freinds you can trust infinately. just be yourself, open up to people. know that's hard, but im sure you can do it. you're an amazing person.

melodrama. yes, that's the word to describe highschool. yes,i miss my freinds, but i've come to realize that im better of without some of them. we have block scheduling, so i have 4 classes a day every other day. most of them are IB, so i have no free time like, ever. even now, on a saturday, i should be writing a soliloquy and memorizing a play for drama, not to mention my spanish oral, biology homework and the latin and french songs im supposed to know for chorus. ugh. school sucks.
on the bright side, my school is putting on a production of sweeney toddthis weekend! my friend(one of the last [from my old school]) is part of the mob/chorus, so i went to see the play last night.Wow! it was amazing. and hilarious. but the shocking part was seeing my freind Kayla int he last scene. she looked like she was about to kill someone! sweet, A+, never cursed, never hurt a fly little kayla, looking like she was about to rip someones head off! ah, good times, good times.

oh, and i don't know how much i'll be on now. i'll try to come on every week or so.
    write back soon,
    Emily

Hi David! It's nice to know that you are interested in Southeast Asian Culture. Regarding the book you were asking me about, yeah, The Pretenders is part of the five novels included in the Rosales saga. The novels span about 300 years and concerns issues of the Filipinos' search for identity, effect of colonialism, cultural value system, etc. I haven't read the entire series myself but that's one of my goals, in order to understand their interconnectedness. It's fine to read just one of them though.

    Hi David,
Your avatar is beautiful, what a magnificent tree! Meditation....I haven't mastered the art of meditation. It is like life which I feel how we live is an art in and of itself but we never quite master but meditation should be a journey within and an act of being aware an observer and ultimately connecting with your self within. Being aware of the breath is the first step. Sit comfortably in a chair. I like to begin with my hand on my heart so I can feel my heartbeat, be aware of the breath but don't force it just be aware of its own subtle movement, along with letting the thoughts, which you will have many just appear and subside. Ultimately we want the mind to quite. There are so many levels to meditation and your experience with it will change, but it will teach you and guide you as you feel more connected to the breath and within yourself. A fascinating book to read is called Play of Consciousness by Swami Muktananda which doesn't really teach you meditation techniques but it is by great master from India. It is his experience, he has written other books as well. Just reading his books can make you more in tune.Shikka, the women who writes alot of posts in the group has alot of knowledge and writes about meditation alot. She is the one that wrote the post you questioned so lets see if she responds. I suggest checking out her shelf as well. I looovvvved One Hundred years of Solitude. It was so complex and I guess it was that there were so many characters and they all lived so closely yet they were each in there own world. I found it a fascinating book, can't really explain it. I would love to read it again one day. Someone said it is a book one should read twice. I will send you a group invite. Take care! Aliza

I really want to read the City of Ashes, I read the first book and loved it, so I am going to read the second one. I just read a couple pages of Crank, it was okay, but all the pages looked like they were in a poem, which was cool in one sense and not in the other. I always judge books by their cover (i don't know why, but it works for me), and really good books have good covers, but not all good covers are actually good books. Did you ever read Heir Apparent? It was really good, it was kind of science fiction with it being in the future, but the main story wasn't in the future. I like books with a mystery, I enjoy reading and stopping and rereading paragraphs. I always try to figure out what happens next. I don't mean actual mystery books, but just books that leave you questioning, and that there is a puzzle to piece together. I even used apostraphes. ;]

Its a start, I didn't use many apostraphes, but I did use capital letters, and complete sentences and actual words. I am so use to text speak, that I rarely type like this, but I've come a long way I think. By the way, I backspaced a lot on that paragraph.

Across Five Aprils is a terrible book and no offense to the world, but I do not like reading about the civil war. I'm sorry, but i do not like historical fiction, so the civil war fits under there. I read it for language arts, it was kind of a requirement. I do like action sci-fi thriller books, I haven't read much for fun lately, because of ar and i have been busy and havent had much time to read. I have been reading a lot of John Grisham books(well only 3, but that's a lot with one author for me), for some reason I do like those books even though I usually only read fantasy with the occasional science fiction. A few weeks ago, I read city of bones, it was terrific, it had magic and everything. I very much recommend it. Are you in to magic? You seem to be into any type of books, I guess I exaggerated a little with Across Five Aprils, but it was only ok till I got like halfway through it. I like books to kinda hook me in the beginning. Like the first chapter of the 6th harry potter book was terrible, and very hard to read. Anyways, back to where I was, what is your favorite kind of book?? Magic, fantasy, science fiction, realisitic, historical?? I probably forgot a few, but I have a headache. Too many complete sentences, lolz, ok. I forgot to mention this in the beginning but hello ;]
