I'm a writer who is passionate about anything to do with books. I read very widely, loving historical novels, fantasy, crime, old classics and ground-breaking new books. I have a particular love of classic children's fantasy books. I write for both children and adults, but all of my books have a twist of the fantastical about them. My books...more »

Salem's Lot was the first book I did a report on in elementary school. Recently I've been reading Jeffrey Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series. For some reason I have a really hard time putting his books down.

I justed wanted to say your series on The Witches of Eileanan is totally awesome. I am only on book 3 but I should be done with the series in a couple of weeks. The I'm going to start Rhiannon's Ride next.

Kate, Hi. Thank YOU! I have added several things to my own list from looking at yours, and including ones you've written. You're right. You may not be able to get the Zellnik stories locally.

    Hi.
I'd just like to say that I love your books, specifically 'The Witches of Eileanan' series. I just finished 'The Cursed Towers' and now I'm restless, wishing I could read book four. Unfortunately due to my lack of money at the moment I cant. I also love to write. I finished High School last year and came top of my year for creative writing. Your books have inspired me to try and follow my dream.
Thankyou for writing such mesmerizing and enthralling books.

thought for the day 27th July

Sadhana (spiritual discipline) determines the character of a person and character in turn determines one's destiny. Character is cultivated by performing good actions. Actions are based on one's thoughts and intentions. Whenever any thought arises in the mind, one should examine whether it is right or wrong, whether it will benefit society or cause harm. Actions should be based on such enquiry. It is wrong to blame anyone for our misfortunes. Our thoughts and actions alone are responsible for our plight. If one entertains pure thoughts and does all actions with firm faith in God, one will be favoured with God's Grace.

Hi, Kate F. I stumbled into your reading list accidentally, and judging by what I saw, thought you might enjoy two historical mystery books. They're written by Miriam Zellnik and her brother, set in 1890's Portland, Oregon, and feature the tailor Libby Seale

I read a few reviews from you on Hearn's 'Tales of the Otori' books and came here not realising you were a published author. I read 'The Starthorn Tree' not long after picking up 'Daughter of the Forest' by Juliet Marillier.
That was almost 4 four years ago now, and being so long ago (well, feeling that way) I'm not sure what to tell you.

I was disappointed, I remember. The character Briony was my favourite. Your verse, I liked...but I felt, for all the magic there was, so little happened. The thing is, my memory's so fuzzy, I need to read it again. So I will, and perhaps let you know what I make of it this time round.

I saw your review of Hobberdy Dick and it brought such good memory's back from my first read in the 70`s that I burrowed in to my collection and retrieved a school library edition (bought from there old stock) and am about to reread it for the first time in 30 years.
    Thanks. Stephen.

    Hey Kate,
Tower of Ravens was a great read! We both really loved it. We're looking forward to the next one. I put a discussion/review of it on YA Books that Adults Should Read. I know it's not particularly YA but I know I would have read it as a teen if it was available then.

Wish-fulfillment for their readers too! The interactions between Rhiannon and Lewen are wonderful. We both laughed a lot last night.

Hi Kate, Yes, other Ian McEwan books are good, I loved "Atonement" although the film helped with my enjoyment. I must admit that I have problems with Sebastian Faulks as well. I find his writing very difficult to get into.
