I am reading Martha Southgate's "Third Girl From the Left." She's a very talented writer. The book is about a young African American woman named Angela trying to make it into the Film industry during the 1970's. Angela's great hope and belief in people is heartbreaking to witness as she does what is necessary to survive as an extra in B films

"American Salvage" by Bonnie Jo Campbell. It's a beautiful collection of stories chronicling the hardscrabble lives of Midwesterners plodding through their days. It's chockablock with tough love, poignancy, and quiet pain.

Hi.

Haha!

    Hi Passionate,
I don't read as much non-fiction as I'd like. I'm sorry, but I don't know where you might find the essays. Have you done any searches yet? I could ask my local librarian. Peace. ~zawadi

not sure why you thought i would know, but this is as close as i can find on line, Pramoedya Toer Letter to a Friend from the Country:
http://www.jstor.org/pss/3350830, but i am not an academic, so i cannot access it.

and the only place i find Helene Cixous A Life of Letters is http://www.ecampus.com/book/978081=6621149 where they sell a text book for a small fortune which has the 17 pg. now i am a bit curious, i had never heard of Helene Cixous, or Pramoedya Toer. How do you know of either?

hi, passionate! anyone in FFP could invite other members for activities such as storytelling to kids.

one of the upcoming activities is the 'BookTalk with Veritas Parochial School, BF Paranaque students,' organized by pivnoj, a high school teacher and math whiz in real life. Check http://www.shelfari.com/groups/12439/discussions/53013/Flippers-and-Bookayos-UNITE-.

sana sta ana also is involved with the French NGO ATD, which organizes art & music workshops for children in depressed areas all over metro manila. but i believe the target area this year is in Pandacan, Manila. Please visit http://maydiwayata.multiply.com/calendar/item/10002/ATD_Volunteers_Needed_who_will_inspire_a_love_of_reading_among_kids_living_in_poverty.

the person to contact for ATD is at http://www.shelfari.com/sana_staana.

hope this info will help you. thanks!
