This is a book that demands concentration but the rewards of doing so are incredible! The Enchantress of Florence is a fusion of history, legend, myth, magic and vast imagination that can only come from the pen of Rushdie. At first I found the book a little difficult to get into but once I had it completely entralled me. Rushdie takes you into a sumptuous world of emporers, war-Lord's, princesses and palaces. He stretches your mind and imagination.

Beautifully written and well crafted but at the end you'll feel as if you've been cheated as he leaves you in suspense until the next volume in the trilogy.

This is a beautifully written, bizzare book. The very implausibliity of it makes it a compelling read and takes one into a world where the sense of smell overrides any moral code. I'd say it must be one of the wierdest books I have ever read but I enjoyed it immensely.

I love the voice the author uses to tell his story and the bizzare way it is written as a series of text messages to the Prime Minister of China (if I remember rightly). It is easy to read and gets you right into the skin of the character telling the story. The book iis laced with a dark humour and irony. I'd recommend it.

I found this an insightful book though not terribly well written. There are some flashes of great insight and inspiriation but some of it made me cringe.
