Just finished reading the Heretic's Daughter, excellent book, I couldn't put in down. It is actually written by one the characters in the book distant relative's Base on historical research and records from Salem and Andover.
Jim - I just started reading "Founding Brothers" by Joseph Ellis. Have you read this one? I noticed you read "American Sphinx by Ellis. I know you have read a lot of American history ... what do you think of Ellis?
I just bought the second book of Ken Follet ?? name it is the followup to pillars of the earthFinished The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, thought it was great actually could not put it down. Currently I'm reading Stormy Weather by Jiles. It is a book about the depressio ijn the oil fields in Texas and one of the themes is on Joe Hancock horses. my sister actually has some of the quarter horses fo her rodeo activities. But the breed comes from my Aunts husband's grandfather. ( My Aunt Mabel who is 91, my dad's sister) So it is pretty interesting. Hope you guys are doing okay. Love
Oh, Well... at least stick around and contribute to the other discussions. How about saying something about Hayek's book? I got too many non-participants in my group. I think people on Shelfari mostly join groups for the heck of it. Bleah.
You are coordially invited to join a discussion on "The Church and the Market: A Catholic Defense of the Free Economy" by Thomas E. Woods Jr. at the "Ron Paul Reading List" Shelfari Group [URL=http://www.shelfari.com/groups/24536/about] See you there!
Yea there are many books on the list that I'm going to have to get... what fun. I'm almost through with Pillars and I don't want it to end... my next book is March by Geraldine Brooks.. (Year of Wonders)
I'm about half way through Pillars, I love it...very well written and intriguing...., I just bought this reference book...501 books to read before you die! Pretty fun to see how many you have read and mostly how many you have not!!!
I've looked at Pillars, "it looks overwhelming"
Hi Jim, Yesterday I spoke to somebody reading Follett's latest book ("World Without End" I think). She said she couldn't put it down & liked it better than "Pillars." Guess I'll have to move that one to the top of my list. Plan to be in St. Michaels this weekend but not move until spring. Hope all is well - Judy
Fantastic ... I know you are going to love it. Pillars is truly one of my all time favorites. Judy
Pillers of the Earth is one of my favorites. It seems so much like your kind of book that I'm really surprised you haven't read it already . It's such a great look at that period of history and the church's position. I noticed that this book returned to the best seller list because he has written a follow-up -- have you heard anything about that one? Sometimes #2 doesn't measure up or you are expecting too much (Rocky 2 & 3 & 4, etc). See you in St. Michaels -- Judy
i reviewed The March....call me Roger Ebert:)
I am still working on my library. sometimes it's hard to keep track. I have read somuch in the last 5 or 6 years I can't hardly believe myself!
Just finished The Dante Club.. very good and rich in historical tidbids. Char
Jim -I will keep "A Canticle for Leibowitz" in mind. Right now, I am in the middle of the "Count of Monte Cristo" and "Sword of Shanara." Both are really good, although the latter bares many resemblances to Lord of the rings and a few other better known fantasy adventures. I've been keeping an Access database to log the books I have read and plan to read.Scott
