Hi, Marsha! After browing your shelf and added a few books to mine that I had forgotten I had read.Regarding "A Time to Keep Silence": If you've ever dreamed of going off to some extremely quiet and ascetic locale...to observe and to write...you'd love this book. Author spends time at various monasteries, observing each sect's unique character. Brilliant prose and insightful views into our reflective nature. Will dispel any preconceptions you have of monks as being antisocial or/repressed/masochistic. Also a very brief read. Since you love Dillard, Eiseley, etc...I think you will love this.

Thanx for the note! I have Ahab's Wife somewhere in my stash -- I'll dig it out and give it a try. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
I have had Jared Diamond on my to-read list for a while now. I read Dancing Wu Li Masters as a teenager. Both Empty Mirror and Cave in Snow seem interesting .. I will try them. Thanks.
December nominations are up at the Good Reads Group Site. Make sure to vote!
HI Marsha, I am glad you liked my bookshelf. I haven't been adding books for a while now, but hope to continue in winter. You have a lots of books that I haven't heard of before, I will try some. Any particular recommendations?
Hi Marsha, Thanks for your interest in our group(Eat Good Food, Read Good Books) it is a fun group, but obviously as you pointed out, geography is a factor. The group existed way before Shelfari, just thought it would be a way to keep track of books especially the "Books to Read" list. Love your pic with your dog. Standard poodle? Happy reading!
Hello Marsha. Gosh, I read Staggerford a couple years ago, when I was under the weather and looking for some humor to read. Oddly enough, the action starts on Oct. 30, and covers the life of an English professor over the course the a week. That's about what I remember, other than the protagonist was a little pathetic (in a humorous way). Welcome to Shelfari!
Hi Marsha! I see you've joined the Good Reads group. Ever since I joined I have read some very good recommendations from people there. Their monthly read has always been something I've really enjoyed and often wouldn't have known about otherwise. Thanks for the friend request. Hope you enjoy Shelfari as much as I do.Ma
