If there was anything I could pass on to my kids it would be my passion for reading and learning. Who cares about chores when you could be reading something utterly profound? I think they've followed my lead--when I ask them to set the table they answer "but mom, I'm reading!"

Howdy there! Lots of good books on your shelf, Sarah! I love to check your shelf and see what you are reading. It gives me good suggestions . I think I'll add "Peace Like a River" to my list of books to get at the library next week. Lots of friends have told me its good.

Hi! I've noticed that you added a lot of my favorite books to your wish list. I hope you like them! A couple of days ago I took my copy of Love In the Time of Cholera back to the store. I bought it so long ago that they couldn't give me a refund, but I did get store credit. I used that to buy Kabul Beauty School, which I really enjoyed. Happy reading!

Hi Sarah, Been a while since I had a baby 3 weeks ago. Her name is Lydia Elizabeth and she was 5lb 15 oz. She's beautiful and letting me read a lot. But that won't last for long. Amy

I agree about Oprah's picks, but there have been a few winners. My first one of her's was Anna Karenina and I LOVED it. I've also enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible and Night. Drowning Ruth was better than I expected, too. I can't think of any others that I'd recommend, though.
I'm reading The Book Thief right now and I'm enjoying it, but it probably isn't the best book for me right now because it's a bit of a downer.
Thanks for the offer to mail me some books, but I really can get most of the ones I want. If they aren't at the library on base I can get them from Amazon or half.com. I actually ordered a huge stack of books right before my husband left, knowing that I would need the entertainment/escape. I'll be visiting the States over spring break so I can stock up again then. I can't wait to go to a Barnes and Noble. I love being surrounded by shelves of books.

Well, I just might skip Love in the Time of Cholera. I only bought it because books are hard to come by here and I like having a stash to read when the mood hits. Has your friend said anything about Pillars of the Earth? You never know for sure what will offend other people. Wicked was recommended to me by several LDS friends and yet I couldn't get through it. Pillars was far worse than Wicked, though.

I live in a town called Landstuhl which is about an hour southwest of Frankfurt, not far from the French border. I believe it's in the Munich mission, but that could be outdated info since it's based on a friend of mine who served a number of years ago. There's A LOT of military in this area so we're not really having a typical German experience. My husband left for a six month deployment to Iraq today so I'm feeling a little alone and homesick for the States. I think I'll go escape in a good book.....

Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I read some of your comments and I have two things to say. First of all, Wicked the musical is far better than the book, if you ever get the chance to see it. I only made it halfway through the book and then I took it back to Barnes and Noble and told them that it offended me. They looked at me like I was crazy, but I got all my money back. Second thing, beware of Pillars of the Earth. It has great reviews and there were things I enjoyed about it, but there is so much sex and most of it is violent and disturbing. It's not just one scene that you can skip over and then get on with the story. You may end up loving it like most readers, but based on some of your other reviews, I'd say that the content will most probably bother you.

So, I was reading reviews for The Red Tent and your's stuck out to me (you mentioned that much has been lost in Bible translations - are you Mormon? Don't mean to pry, but that's a common idea in Mormonism), so then I took a look at your bookshelf and it seems like we have much in common. I'm always looking for good books to read and so, I thought I'd send you a friendship invitation. Hope you don't mind! Joanna

    Hi,
Thanks for the complements on my book list. I am sometimes picky about what I read. I try to stay away from books that appear questionably in character. Before finding Shelfari I would search out books randomly online, selecting only those books that were being raved about it. Most of the time I was lucky. I usually have one book that I am reading and one that I am listening to. Right now I am reading March by Brooks, and listening to Devil in a White City, both are on your lists. Hopefully I will enjoy both. I am thinking that I need something light and humorous next. I was online today searching for just that. I came across the Nursery Crime (The big over easy, and The fourth bear) books by Jasper Fforde, I can't imagine that there would be raunchy scenes in these two books.

Hey Sarah- I am actually reading a book right now called "Captive Hearts" by Anita Stansfield. Its the 2nd in a series of 4. I've read it before and am at it again. I really enjoy her books. With Molly I have actually read a lot of books. Everytime I nurse I pick up a book, when I don't have something to read while I'm nursing I go crazy. What are you reading right now? I'm guessing you finished the red tent. Did you find that at the library? Well, I'm in the middle of making dinner so I gotta run. Love ya.

I liked Life of Pi because it made me think. But just a warning, it is pretty long and somewhat slow. I think if you're a quick reader, it wont take too long though.
