I am a college English instructor. Though my specialty is technical communication, I like to escape into the world of literature in my spare time.
When adding books to my shelf, I did not discriminate. Basically, anything I could ever remember reading appears on it, both good and not so good.
You can trace the history of my love for literature in the books that I have read. As a child, I was a Nancy Drew buff and fan of anything by Judy Blume, Beverly Clearly, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and Laura Ingalls Wilder. In high school, I began gravitating toward ethnic literature after having read Beloved and The Joy Luck Club. In college, I became obsessed with Chicano literature, reading everything I could from authors like Sandra Cisneros and Denise Chavez. Lately, though, I have been using the Modern Library's list of "100 Best Novels of the Twentieth Century" as my reading guide. « less
