Oh, I forgot to mention the book I am reading "traitor to his class", a biography of FDR. I have not finished yet (a lot of distractions!). It is apparently the best FDR biography I have read so far! I highly recommend it.

By the way, my family and I visited Yale campus this summer too! A beautiful place!

Hi Ben, good to hear from you and thanks for your recommendations!
Yes, I am interested in history...lucky enough not in philosophy haha...I had great interest in reading your mourning article about your father in the past: an extraordinary man and an extraordinary life!

Finally I visited Emily Dickenson's Amherst, MA this summer. Her home is reserved as a museum and a tour is available too. That was a worthwhile trip for me.

I am currently recovering from a serious breakdown: my blood pressure dropped to 70/50. Luckily enough, I am seeing an acupuncturist once a week and she is helping me tremendously.

All right, I have to rest now....

You can never have to much books about art is it? Bosch is absolutely brilliant. He's one of my favorite painters, specially because of all the symbolic he used in his painting. I feel very luck myself to live in Europe. It's indeed very easy for me to go to a lot of museums in any kind of city. If you ever want to go to The Louvre, let me know and I travel with you to show you around. If you bring you copy of 'the 1001 paintings you must see before you die, then I will take mine too! There are a lot of paintings in that book I still have to see. I'm specially interesting in painting of the 16th en 17th century. What do you like the most? The old masters or maybe modern?
If you finish you novel, let me know. I would love to read it. A Dutch translation... that would be soooo cool! You would be a famous writer then ^_^ Love, Monique

Hi Ben, Just saw "Le Silence du Lorna" over the weekend - like all (or almost all) French movies, the ending just left me very confused. The story is gripping - gives you an idea what people do for money and documents :-)

Hi Ben, I've heard about "Lorna's Silence", but havent watched it yet. They screened it in the theaters year about a year ago I think but I missed it then. The plot sounds interesting....and it's on my to see list.

Hi Ben, I just finished "Fateless". It's like no Holocaust novel I've ever read before. It's a completely different perspective (cold, detached and disturbing all at once) - a must read! I am now on to "Under the Frog" - a booker short-listed hungarian comic novel by Tibor Fischer.

    Hi Ben,

I don't have twitter, but I do appreciate what you're trying to do. You're getting a big hug for that. Everything that is happening in Iran now is gives me a Tiananmen massacre feeling again. It makes me feel very blessed to live in a political stable country. Keep up the good work!

Btw, how are you? We haven't speak each other for such a long time. I'm doing okay. A little busy with this and that, specially of course with reading. Today I've bought The courage to stand alone by Wei Jingsheng in a second hand store. I'm looking forward to read it.

Have a wonderful day with a lot of sunshine!
    Lots of love,

I was reading my old Shelfari-messages and found the one you send me about Shaun Tan. I've read his The Arrival a couple of weeks ago and really loved it! Beautiful illustrations without words. Any word would be to much. The illustrations alone tell the wonderful, heartbreaking story. I forced my colleague to make sure we have this book in our bookstore all the time and she agreed with me ^_^. Like me she loves graphic novels, specially the good ones. I definitely wish to read and see more of Shaun Tan.
I haven't read the book of Simon Winchester yet, but I will place it on my reading list which is getting longer and longer. A couple of days ago I found A thousand years of good prayers in my bookstore and I really want to read it. Thanks for your review on the book. I was happy to see that there's also a movie. Did you see that one?

I loved the message you send me about the Dutch getting smarter. How come... no idea... maybe because it's so easy here to start an education at home and teachers are stimulating the student to learn and discus with each other. Being smart in Holland seems to be very important.
Please keep sending the messages. I think they are very interesting and funny. I will try to keep in mind to send you some interesting articles too. I'm sorry that I always forget that.

Have a wonderful weekend with nice shiny weather!
    Love, Monique

    Hi Ben, thanks a lot!
Yes, I will have a car. I visited Yale and Harvard in the past. Beautiful campus and architecture!
My initial plan is to visit Emily Dickinson's Amherst, MA.
I would like to go to Boston again. However, it is not cool to wander around by myself in a big and busy city. Nobody in my family circle seems interested in visiting a dead woman's tomb with me.....
I am talking to 2 more girls and will find out soon.
    Have a nice weekend!

    Hey Ben,
I did not photograph the Wenchuan groud zero. I was there a couple years before, and it was truly lovely and I made some friends with the Tibetan locals (who I've called and are ok). The propaganda exhibit sounds interesting to me just for the sheer audacity of it all. Thanks for getting in touch. CHINA: Portrait of a People due out soon...
