Thought I would try for a bit less this year, but somehow I'm now going to surpass. I'm really not trying to gobble down books - it just happens and I enjoy reading on my commutes! Might make 60, but that seems a longshot from here.

lots of holes and inconsistencies in this one, but still a great character. I didn't always believe the events would play out as she was describing, but I enjoyed the ride anyway. I like it when she explains features of Japanese society and culture, which were a bit less in this book.

evasive, pretentious posturing, didn't answer the questions. only educational about his personality, not the art world. the $12 million stuffed shark or Seven days in the Art world are much better choices

disturbing look at a man's life with personality disorder - emptiness of character, no emotion.

inventive storytelling style/structure. Disturbing imagery, deeply layered psychological and biblical references. A wild ride!!

fun, light look at travelling light and cheaply all over the world - Halliday is quite funny, and made me yearning to travel - a cheap travel fix.

very well done look at the working poor and how it's so hard to get by, much less ahead.

this was ok, very slow moving and did not hold my interest that much. I could see the author wanted to paint a portrait of race relations, but for me not enough happened.

I think the book plodded along, without a clear climax, and without a great attachment or understanding of the protagonist. The whole effect was muted, removed, when I was reading to try to understand this unique world. Not bad, but could have been much better.

endless description of construction and change in NYC at turn of century, but no depth to characters or much of a story. Would not recommend - this won the Pulitzer??!
