My Top Ten Shelf has way more than ten books but I just couldn't narrow it down. Send me a recommendation along with your invite or acceptance of friendship. I'd love to hear about what you're reading. Also, if I send you an invite it has NOTHING to do with the promotion of my books. I'm a booklover first and foremost and an invitation from... more »

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Candy Girl, quick read but quite entertaining. I just finished Stewart O'Nan's Last Night at the Lobster (gorgeous in its simplicity) and am two chapters into Tom Perrotta's The Abstinence Teacher. Both will probably end up in my best books of 2007 list.

WOW, Nichelle! I am beyond impressed with your favorites in each of your Tag categories! This gives me some great reading to look forward to over the holidays! Perhaps I will make an effort to categorize my favorites with the tag system....so much more satisfying than the simple, yet impossible, "top ten". Also, I will probably read your books, as well! ;-) ~Dani

HI Nichelle, Territory of Men was a gamble-purchase. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was no "White Oleander" , but it was pretty decent.

Hi Nichelle. I think you and I are the only people who read The Ticket Out. I periodically check to see if she has another book, but so far, no luck :(

    Hey Chelle,

Thanks for the invite. Your were right about this place being addicting. I was remembering books from when I first fell in love with reading.

Woodson is pure magic. We have several other favorites in common-- Sedaris, Sheffield and Burroughs. Don't you love the story about punishing bad drivers with risque signage? Oh, to be a fly on that windshield. . .

BLOOD FATHER was a very moving read for me, I am patiently waiting for more from Peter Craig. I read THE MARTINI SHOT and still need to read HOT PLASTIC and I do like his work.

Did he happen to mention at the reading whether he had something in the works??

    Thanks for being a friend.

Thanks for the kind words, and yes I'd be honored to be your friend! I love the idea of incorporating your favorites from each Tag into your profile. You have an awsome shelf and I've identified enough things on it to keep me busy for the next year!

I just read the description of And She Was. I admit never to having heard of Cindy Dyson, but boy does that book sound interesting, especially its historical reach. Please let me know how you find it when you get to it!

Yeah--If James Lee's wife ever finds out about me I've had it! I love him sooo much! I also love Walter Mosley--the "color" books (Little Yellow Dog, Devil in a Blue Dress, etc.). When I'm reading about Dave Robicheaux and Easy Rawlins I am transported. Hate it when Mosley does SciFi though--my least favorite genre. Well, next to math textbooks.....

Just browsing your reading list. My two-cents. Not a fan of Bechdel's Fun House... my review explains it all. I prefer Chocolat to Blackberry Wine, about which I remember very little beyond hills and fences. I adore Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle, and wholly recommend, after you read it, that you see the film with Bill Nighy... he's a hoot. Slut! was interesting, and as part of the lit. on American teens, it makes a valuable contribution to the heavily male analyses. I LOVED Blankets. If you've watched the documentary Devil's Playground, you already know Rumspringa, but Schatman is great at explaining the history of specific Amish traditions. If you're interested, I can recommend an ethnography.

Are you sorry you asked? LOL! You're list has some stuff on it that looks great. I will be returning.
