Jackfish was written by a friend of Meghann's and it's out there, but you would probably like it. It's a bit like a zany version of Murakami without the ever present dual story motif. Does having intertwining stories qualify as a motif? And The Widows' Adventures is a pretty good book. It gets a little long and I would probably end it a bit earlier, but I liked it a lot.
