"The study of history is the best medicine for a sick mind; for in history you have the record of the infinite variety of human experience plainly set out for all to see; and in that record you can find for yourself and your country both examples and warnings, fine things to take as models, base things, rotten through and through, to... more »

Greetings Keri: In the Army at Dawn, I found it amazing that the US could get together so quickly and put forth an Army to invade Africa. What with the poor quality of Generals and high ranking officers. Most of this was due to old age as the army was pretty stagnant in the twentys and thirtys plus the fact this nation has no intention of getting into a European war.As we now know they got there real training on the job in operation Torch. After retiring from the Corps I lived in the desert where Patton trained his troops and I heard a lot of great stories from the old timers who were there when the Trains came in an disgorge the new soldiers. It lasted for days. One train after another. The town of Blythe,Ca.couldnt believe it. On some days when a convey came thru this small town then couldnt cross the main st.for hours as trucks and tanks ect.kept coming. They even built an airfield there and it is still in operation.(civilian now). On to another subject; I found the book "The Coldest War" by Halberstan. Absolutely excellent. It gives great insite as to how that Korean war got going and how the different parties participated. i am sure you would enjoy it. Well that is it for now. Semper Fi
