I really enjoy reading (duh), but I don't read nearly as much as I wish I did. I enjoy books that I can invest my time in willingly - dictionary long books need to be *really* good for me to start reading them. I generally enjoy fiction, though I read a bit of everything. I'd really like to get some suggestions on biographies, history, political... more »

  • The Drowning Tree: A Novel

The 3rd book from Carol Goodman, this is by far my favorite. As all of her books had done in the past, I felt compelled to absorb and immerse myself in the rich, detailed history woven throughout the novel. The plot moves gracefully without many slow points and yet I didn't feel I needed to rush through this novel to enjoy it.

This book was delightful from beginning to end, though I can say it will not be everyone's cup of tea. About a boy who believes his "body" is talking to him - the visuals are fantastic and the character development quick and yet not hurried.

Drawn in by the kick-start introduction of the story, the book is great. However, there are slow points that readers should bare within in order to get the heart of the story. About a young woman forced to choose being society's expectations of herself and her own dreams she collides with history itself and creates and everlasting art.

I'm not one for biographies in the least, I picked this up initially because of the peep-hole dust cover of the original hardcover edition. What I found inside was a haunting, heart-filled, coming of age story about a boy living with an active imagination fueled by situations out of his control. Told entirely through the art of the author, it is compelling and leaves you wanting to never put it down.

Though it was suggested by a good source, I was wary to pick up the book because I was worried it would be your typical teeny-drama book with watered down love scenes and a weak plot. As a 25 year old mature adult, that's not my cup of tea.

I was wrong, so very wrong. Delightfully refreshing with a lack of watered down love scenes, fantastic dialogue and visuals. Great character development and wonderfully engaging plot lines. Once you read this book you'll be thrilled to hear they're making a movie based on the book and you'll understand why.
