Stacie von Bookfiend

Stacie von Bookfiend

I'm a Pittsburgh native, but I've lived in Florida since 1984 in an effort to be far away from my family, which has mostly worked. I LOVE to read. I mark the day I got my first library card at age 6 as one of the most important days in my life. I try to read at least 10 books a month. I love suspense/thrillers, mysteries, biographies,...more »

    Stacie,
Because I am not computer savy, it took me a long time to get to this part of this web site. Anyway, I have just finished The Camel Club, I am sure you probably read this book. Very good, a little different. Am going to start Consent to Kill by Vince Flynn. Hope you haven't read these, but chances are slim.

Librarything is easier to use when adding large numbers of books -- shelfari is more visual, which I'm not used to. But I like grouping my books by "what I'm reading" vs "what I've read" and "read next." Librarything is how I'm keeping track of books I own or have read; I'm using shelfari more to see what I'm reading or looking at next.

Just letting you know that a winner has been chosen as July's selection in the group Good Reads. We will be reading Joshilyn Jackson's "Gods in Alabama". Feel free to stop by to post questions or start discussions. A few members have mentioned they are reading more than one title so if you choose to read any of the other nominated titles feel free to post or start discussions on them as well.

Voting for August's book will start at the beginning of June so be sure to check back and vote!

The identical strangers book is interesting because it compares the nature vs nuture question but not a page tuner like a thriller. It is their personal story with other twin stories mentioned. Hope this helps. I listened to it while I was doing housework.

I just finished The DaVinci Code. I thought it was a very good book although it wasn't as intense as I thought it would be. I looked up alot of the art works and sites that are discussed in the book and this really made it interesting. I will be reading Angels and Demons in the future but not soon. I have alot of other books I have planned to read first. Next on my list is Book 6 of the Dark Tower Series, Song of Susannah.

Stacie, The Terror was really different. There are alot of unanswered questions at the end of the book that may never be answered. I read a review on this site that went as follows: "its cold...there is a thing on the ice,,, and its cold ans thats the first 400 pages,," While this review is true I think it has to be this way to introduce the characters in the book. I have been reading the Da Vinci Code for a few days (which I love it.)and thinking about the Terror. I really liked the Terror. There are many parts in the book that take your breath away, and while I love non fiction, and this is non fiction, I'm really not sure how much of the infor mation was obtained. Still I thought it was a good book. Not one of my favorites, but still a very interesting book.

Thanks for joining the Suspense & Thrillers group! Love having new members. Though it might be on page 4 of the discussions, there is a spot for introductions as well as members who’d like updates, so jump in at any time.

Also know there are like 13 pages of discussions. When you go to the group’s home page, click on “view all discussions” From there, scroll down and you’ll see 1 of 13. Click on the next page to view the remaining posts. Please feel free to add a comment or two. We’d love to hear what you think.

Each month, we have a group read for members. April's Group Read will be MONKEEWRENCH by P. J. Tracy, May's Group Read is THE DOLLMAKER by Amanda Stevens (The discussion will be lead by the author - yeah!) and June's Group Read will be A WICKED SNOW by Gregg Olsen. If you can get a copy of those, please join us in a group discussion.

We also have Buddy Reads where one member will ask if others would like to join in to read a book. Works like the Group Reads, but on a smaller scale. One of these will include “2060: The Newton Prophecies” by Keith Katsikas. As a special treat, the group is getting a discount on the book. You’ll find the discussion about this book under the list of discussions.

We also have something new. It’s a Suspense & Thriller Challenge. More can be found on the group or at http://suspense-thriller-challenge.blogspot.com/ We even have a Yahoo Group for this at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/suspense-thriller-challenge/

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hi! Thanks for the friend request! We do share a lot of books and it appears have very similar taste in books. Unfortunately I'm leaving Florida Friday to go back to Conneticut. But I'll be back in the fall--can't wait!

I just started the DaVinci Code last night. It won't take me long to read this one( by my standards, not yours) I will let you know how it is when I am done. By the way I am going to review The Terror tonight. What a strange book...

Stacie, Everyone has recommended DaVinci Code. Actually Angles and Demons as a first read and then DaVinci Code. You are the only one that said The Husband sucked. However there wasn't anyone else that even mentioned The Husband. I thought the premise looked good but maybe I will rethink that book. I can always give it away:] As much as you read I think you would know a sucky book when you read one. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks. As soon as I am done with the Terror its DaVinci Code. Thanks again. Chuck

    Hey Stace,

I was just online setting up some shelfari books and starting a Catholic Apologetics group which will hopefully attract some people that like to read the same stuff as I do (and discuss them). Check it out, if you'd like........
