Hey Thurston, I notice you have a lot of sci-fi/fantasy on your shelf. If you haven't already, you should check out Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker series -- it's set in Colonial America, about a boy with special powers. Do start with the first one, "Seventh Son," because all the other books build off of it.
