I'm a regular person living in Northern California. Where the sun shines over 300 days a year. Great reading weather.
I'm a nut when it comes time to read. Buying books books and more books. Spending all my moola.
Now I put everything on my local library list and wait my turn.
I love both fiction and non-fiction. If anyone has...more »

i must admit that i was quite sad in georgia where we lived. there was one walmart. no target, sam's club, costco or starbucks. but we moved to south carolina now and live in a very cute town--it reminds me of Mayberry but with a Kohl's, Target, Walmart, a movie theatre.
i do miss all my friends and family on the west coast but thanks to internet highway i keep updated on things. but i am keeping myself busy. i think that will be the secret to my success this time around. plus i know we will not be moving in two years, so i am more willing to plant roots.
i love one of your friends icon--cal/stanford rivarly--CLASSIC.

Human Smoke is very disturbing...not sure I'm enjoying it but it is very interesting and enlightening. No, I'm not in the "big" book club. haven't heard a thing about it.

Hope all is well with your family.

You know, I was just watching the movie with my daughter the other day, as I remember reading the book many years ago! She loved it, as I knew she would, and I still think Leonardo's performance is just brilliant. One of the few movies that lives up to the book. :)

another non-fiction book i read was Betraying Our Troops. I studied military history in school and am disgusted that our armed forces would rely on contractors EXCEPT since the draft is not instituted our armed forces do not have enough man power. I think I seriously need to read Catch 22. What do you think? :)

Well, it puts a smile on my face that someone understands my reviews. i have tried to add worth reading or if i give anything 2 stars are less than it's not worth reading. LOL. I have a tendency to read fast and generally hit the library or Half Priced books is in Fremont. Have you been there. It might be worth a little adventure for you. There is also a store in Concord. Let me know if you check it out....

    Susie,
Yes, I started keeping a "books read" log back in 1996. It seemed like a good idea at the time since, like you, I would often forget some of the books I'd read (not to the extent that I'd read them again -- my memory is not that bad). I took advantage of Shelfari to create a record of my library; I like that it produces an Excel spreadsheet that can be exported. I have one more bookcase to add, and then I'll be pretty much done (close to 1,000 books, I think). Right now I'm reading Richard Russo's "Bridge of Sighs," Dave Eggers' "What is the What," and Barack Obama's "The Audacity of Hope." I like to have a few books going at the same time, something for every mood. What are you reading currently that you think I'd like?

I didn't read any reviews - I found it at Target. I am actually enjoying it. It's very "New York" and entertaining. I really liked the Jonathan Strange, Mr. Norrell book though. Which of your selections did you like alot? Hope all is well with you. Patrick got his first application off to a school. What a relief!
