Reading is a great passion and hobby of mine. I worked for many years as a bookseller and continue to use books and reading to connect with people and learn about the world.

My husband, Christophe, and I have been married for 13 years; we have three cats named Cleo, Puntje & Filomena. We live outside Westminster, Maryland. more »

Can't return it. Rushdie inscribed it to me at the DC book fair. But it got good reviews, didn't it? Whatever: I'll get to it eventually. Probably. As for the new return policy -- I'm sure you can imagine the grief we have to endure because of it. Sigh. But then, retail would be SO much easier without those damned annoying customers, right? How's your work going? We're treading water just now. A few good days, lots of bad ones. It'll pick up after Thanksgiving, but at the moment people are shell-shocked and not buying much of anything. Shoplifting yes, buying no. On a more personal note, our battle of wits with our cats has escalated. 1. Somewhere along the line they developed a taste for the wires behind our TV set. 2. We responded by taping them (the wires, of course!) down. 3. They figured out that tape can be removed. 4. We then wrapped the wires in, well, wire wrap from Radio Shack. 5. Them: Pull wrapped wire away from set. 6. Us: Tape wrapped wire to set with electrical tape. 7. Them: See step 3 above. 8. We taped electrical tape to set with double-sided tape. We seem to have won, at least for the time being. Myself, I expect to come home from work one day and fine the tape there but the TV gone -- hidden behind the sofa, no doubt, along with everything else they put there.

I'm not sure I will ever catch up to your 332 even if I counted all the books I had to read for my lit. degree.

George Martin? Really? Here's a side of you I haven't seen before. (Not that there's anything wrong with it!) - B

I'm only a few chapters into The Subtle Knife and I'm enjoying it! These books really deal with some serious adult themes. I guess that's why they're in our Sci-Fi and Teen sections both. I'm going to start Pillars after I finish this series.

I haven't actually started it yet. I planned on picking it up this weekend. After you told me how much Tony liked it, and that you were going to read it, I thought I'd give it a try too.
